Are LSU Admissions Applications tied to the LSU Basketball program's success?

LSU had 17,384 Applications for the 2015-2016 Freshman Class
LSU FIRST-TIME, FIRST-YEAR (FRESHMAN) ADMISSION 2015-2016
Gonzaga University had:
40,989 high school freshman admission Application requests in 2014. (After round of 32)
49,709 high school freshman admission Application requests in 2015 (After the Elite 8 appearance).
54,533 high school freshman admission Application requests in 2016 (After Sweet 16)
Basketball wins draw new Zags admission requests and applications
So the question is should LSU invest more in the LSU basketball program's success since it appears to have some correlation with high school freshman interest in a school.

Or more applications come in as the year goes

There are so many factors that could play into the trend of applicants other than success in a sport. They don't present any data to support that the 13k additional apps have anything to do with the success of their basketball program.
LSU is and will always be a football/baseball school.

For a school like Florida Gulf Coast, yes.
For LSU, no.
For LSU, no.

There is a clear correlation between athletic success and increased enrollment. But for LSU it follows football success. Gonzaga doesn't have a football team.
LSU needs to improve the basketball program, but it doesn't need flawed arguments to further the cause.

I don't think the numbers on Gonzaga's applications that you have are accurate... they only have about 6,000 undergrads at the school

Can't tell if his numbers inaccurate, but he doesnt know what they mean. He is comparing applications received to "application requests." Asking for an application is not the same thing as applying to a school.

Numbers are going to drop because of TOPS, not because of the basketball team
