Are college pitchers getting better every year?

Bats have a lot to do with it, also new rookie wage scale for potential draftees

Kind of hard to tell with the change in the bats.

I think there are always pretty top notch pitchers at the college level. I think pitching is just becoming more of a focus with the bats.

They need to go to wooden bats and move season start to later and play through the summer to make it more of a national sport - you do that, the northern schools become players and college baseball will thrive.

Pitching just looks better because of the bats.
How Stanford got Appel to stay is beyond belief.

I did a breakdown a couple of weeks back among foreigners, U.S. players from college, and U.S. players straight from HS, on the current Team USA and the last Major League All-Star rosters.

It turns out that foreigners make up well over 1/3 of the hitters, but that U.S. players from college make up well over 1/3 of the pitchers... more so than even the U.S. players straight from HS.

Thus, I think that the way the college game has evolved, for whatever reason, there is much more top talent at pitcher than there is top talent at other positions. (I don't think this was necessarily the case in the 1980s though, so maybe it's a cyclical thing.)

Kids are coming in more prepared than ever. They are also coming in with much older arms.

What does that have to do with whether the pitchers were getting better or not?

Did Mark Prior (drafted 2002) suck because he pitched in the juiced bat era?

I'm saying if the bats were the same it would be as tough as it was then to evaluate pitchers because they would be giving up bombs. MLB couldn't get a read on how good pitching was back then because the bats canceled out good pitches. I think the reason we think pitching is better now is because the numbers show up as better. I don't think the arms are any better now than they were JMO

They are getting better ...Or they would not be pitching in college !!!
