We held them to 7 points in the first half. The decision not to give IVs at half plus the 4 man rotation on the Dline is why our D fell apart in the second half. I didn’t love the plan, it was too predictable, we didn’t bring enough 5 man pressures and we didn’t disguise pressure at all which is one of the 3-4s advantages. Aranda has had trouble with this type of offense since he’s been here, Mullen gives him trouble every year, but he can handle modern offenses and he will be fine. Go compare Arandas numbers to Venables, you know that Clemson guy, and get back to me.

I think Aranda is good DC, but a good offensive play caller seems to be able to outscheme him. Mullen the past two years, Herman last week, Jimbo last season.

The only thing that i believe can really slow down these modern offense is...

That the exact opposite happens tells you the direction they want football to go - high scoring.

Mullensoffense didn't put up many points last season and Jimbos only outplayed us on the final drive in regulation. It even took a couple of penalties to help him then.

True that Fla didn’t put up tons of points but if you remember the drive late that they went down and scored using some option, he seemed a step ahead Aranda the whole way. I like Aranda. But he’s had trouble getting the defense off the field on key drives in the game against good offensive play callers.

I agree with the OP's assessment. the only thing that stops it is an elite pass rush. see Quinnen Williams,

See “44-16”. Elite pass rush did not stop that beat down

Them and us are covering pretty rough. Some of it looks like WWE and is not called. There is no excuse for that LT holding every play and only being flagged if he tackled.

This game was a fluke. Them starting the 3rd quarter with a 19 play drive wore us out. We were giving them the slants so they took them. We didn't wrap up, so they ran through us. We got tired, then got sloppy.

I have seen Aranda make adjustments at the half, and shut good teams down. This did not happen once our boys were dragging. We have the athletes. They just need a little coaching reinforcement on the basics and a little more PT. They will come together.

Your defense is not going to play as well if they never get to rest.

Mullen’s given him the most trouble but he held him to 19 points on the road last year. His defense scoring was the only reason we had a chance vs A&M last season. Herman put up over 500 yards on Saban so is Saban a bad DC? Like I said go compare the numbers with anybody and since Arandas first year as a DC he’s #1 of all power 5 DCs in every major defensive statistical category. 1 game per year doesn’t make a career. 2011 LSU defense, who you all say is LSU’s best defense ever, gave up 533 yards to a less talented West Virginia team without all the rule changes we have now. Aranda gave up 530 to a better Texas team and now everyone’s crucifying him. Just another phony Rant narrative not based in reality.

The guy at Clemson gave up 31 to the same Alabama team that Aranda shut out for 50 minutes and gave up 10 total points to in 2016. You don’t take anyone’s worst game and judge them by it, especially when that game is a win vs a top 10 team on the road.

More hand wringing about Aranda. There's no one we could hire that would be appreciably better at DC than Aranda.

It's Tuesday and folks are still spiraling about the D.

I don't know if people missed my point, but this isn't hand wringing

I am just saying this will happen and does happen to all defenses.
