General thought: If Dave Aranda doesn't have "it" who does?

Were just at a point in football where if an offense is making the right calls, and the right throws they are going to be be VERY hard to stop.

Modern offenses have an answer for almost everything, man coverage, zone coverage, attach blitzes.

Almost every DC or defensive minded HC has game where they couldn't stop someone.

It happens, now if this keeps happening against lesser teams than I would be concerned.

But this is why a "good enough" offense is never good enough. You're eventually going to get into a game like this, and you can't rely on an offense that scored 24 in a good game.

The only thing that i believe can really slow down these modern offense is a truly ELITE defensive line. Getting pressure with your front four is a must. You see it with great Bama teams, and in Clemson and Miss State last year.

Look at the NFL. There are no real "dominant" defenses.

Wasn't one of the biggest problems (against Texas) the Cage Rush?

[Where the D-Linemen just engaged an O-Lineman, then kept their spacing to "keep Ehlinger contained" - major failure - O and D players both said it didn't work]

A lot of what looked like offensive holding was just the LSU D-Line running the cage rush - making no attempt to break away - by design.

The rules favor the offense like never before. Get used to the shootouts and shitty D cause it’s here to stay.

I believe we are overthinking this. The Texas game was a shootout, believe it was an anomaly.

I agree with the OP's assessment. the only thing that stops it is an elite pass rush. see Quinnen Williams, Glenn Dorsey, that a-hole from Auburn, etc.

if the front can't do it, you have to send extra men, stunt, etc to disrupt and cause turnovers.

the elite offenses running this scheme can't be stopped otherwise.

this is why we are scratching our heads - aranda is a genius, there is only one way to stop this offense, and we aren't doing it. what's the deal?

Did he have it when he gave up 43 points to Pitt in 2016?
or 35 to Virginia Tech that year?

What about 31 to NC State in 2017?

Every good DC has bad games at some point in their career.

I agree. SE is more of a running threat than we will face the rest of the year. Aranda played safe trying to limit him from making plays on his feet and the d-line wasn’t good enough to create pressure on its on.

Once the defense was gassed then game just became a shootout. They need to be better but i trust aranda and one game against a good team/coaching staff isn’t going to change that

Probably because our safeties and LBers were already struggling in coverage.

It's a learning moment, give Aranda the benefit of the doubt that it will improve.

He got his arse kicked by kellen Mond last year
He has been lit up by Jalen Hurts twice
Syracuse lit him up last year
Matt Canada torched him

Bama and Clemson can literally sit in cover 3 all game and the defensive coordinator will look like a god. More often than not it’s the talent not coaching that makes a defense. Give a “great” defensive coordinator a shitty talent wise defense and you’ll think they suck.

That sorta my point.

You're going to have these games where the offense is on and they score.

These games happen to every great DC

Don Brown gave up 62 to Ohio State and 41 to Florida last year.
People have already pointed out the bad games Venables has had.
Nick Saban's defense gave up 44 points to Clemson
Kirby Smart/Mel Tucker's Defense gave up 36 point to us last year, 40 to Auburn 2 years ago and 48 to OU.

so your solution is to just blitz the ultra mobile QB?

We have 1 elite-ish DL (Lawrence) and he’s always injured. The DL can’t pass rush at all. When we get better DL, the D will be better.
