But I can tell you one thing, Jerry Moore is not putting his team on that plane for publicity nor to draw a big game check.
Yes he is...its exactly what they were doing before the Michigan win and all the years previously and they are doing again now and will continue to do after this season...
One big game like this with the check they get covers a large portion of their athletic budget for the season...its one reason why McNeese State, which they stated was the exact reason why they were playing Miami, Texas A&M, and Nebraska a few years back, as to why they and all other 1AA teams do it and its the same for App. St.

They are coming to win the game, and they believe.
Which they should after upsetting Michigan, but its one thing to be a 1AA team with the target on your back in 1AA, now you're a 1AA team with the target on your back in 1A...
Its going to be interesting to see how App plays against a top 1A team that is not taking them lightly and ready to play from the opening kickoff...

That maybe the case for most I-AA teams, but Appalachian could play any local team and still draw 30,000 fans. Of those 30k around 22k would be paying customers (8,000 student tickets)
We will make just as much money playing Jacksonville College, as we will playing LSU.

So App State could earn over $550,000 just for playing Jacksonville College? I don't think so...

22,000 tickets @ $27.00 per ticket would be $594,000...I hope you are not a math major!
That doest consider consesions, and when we go to LSU we have to pay for a plane room and board plus buy seats for all of the band members that go...so we would make more at a home game against Jacksonville than we will make going to Baton Rouge.

But the exposure you get will far outweigh some b.s. Jack. game. Agree? It's a great matchup for money and exposure for both teams, let's be honest here.

Sure, but thats not what was said
The exposure is nice, and we'll take it but right now we dont NEED it. But I can guarantee you we will never turn down a game like this ever, not for the $ but for the exposure and the experience for the players

Just for fun, I'll point out that with all of those resources, App State still managed to lose to Wofford whose enrollment is 1160...about 8% of the size of App State.
(Yeah, it's a cheap shot, but just pointing out you can't have it both ways).

Where did it say anything about tickets, consessions, etc plus you left out expenditures, which would eat into those tickes, consessions and such, hope you're not an accountant...
I said JUST for agreeing to play the game...again is Jackson College going to pay App State a guranteed $550,000 JUST to play the game?
Again this is why 1AA teams schedule games like these to get a guaranteed payday of a certain dollar amount those goes into their athletic budget...
Here read about your own conference...

BS...the money would be a factor too, it always has and always will, its the first objective...the exposure and experience for the players are both secondary...

You guys love to point out the loss to Wofford, as if should be an embarrasment, or something. Do you realize this is a conference opponent, and a damn good one at that? They always give us trouble, running a triple option type of game. They are well coached, and a darn good team for 1AA. Also, for what it's worth, Furman is also a small, private college that tends to give us fits in conference play.

The Michigan game was pretty hot contrary to what people say.
The records are there. The high temperature in Ann Arbor that day was 79 F.

It's possible that the weather could be rainy or something so that App catches a break from the heat. But it's much more likely than not that it's going to be a whole lot hotter...especially in terms of heat index...in Baton Rouge on August 30, 2008 than it was in Ann Arbor on September 1, 2007.

Wofford went 9-4 last season with losses to N.C. State (38-17), Richmond (21-10), Georgia Southern (38-35), and the all-mighty Elon (24-13). 3 of those 4 losses were on their home field, where App State loss 42-31.
Stop me when I get to the good part...

You lost to freaking Kentucky...a team that got beat down 31-14 by Mississippi State at Lexington.... Those in glass houses.
Wofford played South Carolina within 7 in 2006 (had a 1st and goal under a minute with a chance to tie), and was an average southern conference team that year...not making the playoffs

So are you ultimately trying to compare Miss st. to wofford? I'm confused at to exactly what you're getting at here

Is this a big deal or something? How does this have any bearing on us in 2008

I think a lot of Appy Staters will be down. Labor Day weekend. Hopefully they will go to the FQ in NOLA and catch Southern Decadance

It will be miserable hot and humid. Really. You have no idea.
It'll be kinda hard to find some of that gumbo on gameday. Anyone cooking gumbo in that kinda heat needs their asses kicked
.
Come down. Eat the food. Drink the beer. Come back on here after the game and let us know how that hole we ripped in your QB's arse is healing up.
