I am not trolling. I went to games at old Alex Box stadium. I love LSU baseball, but let's get some perspective.

First, okay there are no home runs at Omaha due to the stadium, bats, and balls. Well like I have said good baseball people can win games in more than one way.

Second, college baseball is not a training ground for MLB so I don't have a problem with gong back to the old style aluminum bats and a juiced ball if it will make the game more entertaining. I rarely watch college baseball anyways and baseball fans don't take it seriously as a training ground for MLB,

note I believe the current rate of home runs is somewhere between .4 and .5 a game. That is still to low. Now in Omaha over the last two season the rate is .136 that is about a 3rd as many home runs compared to the average in all of college baseball. LSU or some other good offensive team could have decent home run numbers and good gap to gap power and come into TDA and be shut down because the ball doesn't carry and it doesn't help teams who can hit the ball. Than a team comes in with good enough pitching but who can't hit over .250 as a team and win it all. That isn't good baseball.

The ball that was caught at the wall in last years MSU vs OSU game is the perfect example of why this stadium is to big. Holder I think it was hangs a fat curve ball letter high and in the heart of the plate. The guy squares it up perfectly throws the bat because off the bat it had to be done but it was caught at the wall MSU wins. IN ANY OTHER PARK that was a home run and OSU walks off to beat MSU.

the problem with TDA is that teams have to completely change their approach at the plate that is difficult. IN the box you can hit the ball out if you get good contact, in TDA you can almost never hit the ball out. It is horrible when you rather be a little above the ball and it find a hole than square a ball up crush it and it be a fly ball out.

I don't care what level of baseball it is, but no pitcher should be able to hang a letter high curve ball a batter completely square it up and it be a fly ball out to the warning track.

To me, it's the park, the ball and the bat. All three in combo have made for a terrible viewing experience for any layperson watching the CWS. The only reason LSU fans care is because we've been trained to pay attention to college baseball since the 80's.

IMO if you take power hitting away it's a domino effect. It affects hitting strategy and pitching as well. The difference between an Ace pitcher and a 4th in rotation pitcher becomes more negligible.

I know this all has been stated, but it's not good for baseball enthusiasts or passer-bys.

You want good Ace pitching to shut down great offense, but when offense is hamstrung, then it makes decent pitching look great, which, in turn, diminishes great pitching. That's cluster-f IMO.

heres the link to the HR derby from last year.

LINK

also find it interesting that they have this rule...

quote:

Balls reaching the warning track will not count as an out, giving players another opportunity at bat. Additionally, following the tenth and final out of each at bat, contestants will have an opportunity to hit a home run with the ‘Bonus Ball.’ If successful, the special ball will tack two additional home runs onto the contestant’s total score.

I love baseball and I played it. Yes we used aluminum bats, but if you truly know baseball you shouldn't be complaining about the stadium and how the stadium is so different it's not fair because teams play a certain type of way all year and it's unfair to have them play a new way.

Baseball is baseball and a good baseball program with good coaches and players can make adjustments and play good defense, have smart base running and move the man over.

The game is played with the same rules from regular season to CWS. The purpose of the CWS is not to provide you with homeruns and the dimension of the park is not unfair to the teams and the players because they are forced to play a different way.

There is nothing unfair about the ballpark.

for me these three things have the biggest impact

#1 bats
#2 Stadium
#3 balls

I know for certain that the worst of it comes from the bats because the ball flew out of the park fine during the home run derby in early july. The stadium does hurt but with the old bats the ball flys out fine.

The wind blowing in has a bigger impact on how far the ball goes vs the hight of the seems. I would say the difference between the old stadium and TDA is about .3 or .4 home runs a game, the new balls may only give .1, the old bats may effect the home runs .5 or .6 more a game.

I think the wind howling in is a bigger factor than the bats.

I believe if the new bats were used in the old ballpark, people would be pleased with the games.

I have three questions about the homerun derby.

1. What bats were they allowed to use?
2. How was the wind that day?
3. What ball were they hitting?

When you realize that NO ONE in this thread shares the same opinion as you, maybe it's time to reevaluate your stance on the matter.

Otherwise, you're just trolling. And that's not an opinion....it's fact.
