Anyone know why Orgeron was so upset with Finley? Should have never done on the field.

Uhh because he made a terrible decision that lead to a touchdown that put the game entirely out of reach.

Finley, although a talented QB, made a huge mistake. This isn't high school and you can't just throw into the middle of the field while being sacked. He needs to learn that and O is just trying to get the best out of him. He's not a baby

Uhm, he kind of just threw an interception over the middle for a touchdown. Where else do you think he should have been spoken to?

The LT should have been the one who O ripped on that play, not Finley

Horrible decision by the young man . You can’t just let that go I have no problem with him pointing that out as he walked off. TJ is a man he can take it.

Our o-line sucks arse anyways. There's no salvaging it. Finley has real potential

He did the same thing vs Auburn and my guess is that he's done the same thing in practice. I would have liked to see the arse chewing on the sideline instead of out on the field, but I get why he was pissed.

I did not actually see it live -- but if a player at the highest level of D1 can't take an arse chewing when he makes a total dumbass play --- well, he's not mentally tough enough to play D1.

See - Steve Spurrior, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and other "great" coaches ---- their relationships with QBs are rocky at times --- they expect leadership and intelligent decision making from their QB --- and they deserve it.

Now bring that energy to our veteran Oline that has been doing that on every other play all season.

No one has ever done that before?
Burrow threw two in 2018.

It was the wrong time. It had little to do with Finley. It had to do with the increasing heat on Orgeron’s arse.

It's called an old fashioned butt chewing and he deserved it. This wasn't the first time he's served up a pick 6!

That’s 100 correct. He should have blocked that rusher that ran around the LT as he found his second read, started his motion to throw as he was getting sacked. Totally his fault. :eye roll:

Finley played like shite, but this play, wasn’t his fault. E kept calling for throws in the flat, so the DC called the perfect defense. The LT completely whiffed, so any blame that goes on Finley should also go on those two just as much.

Yep.

Hindsight being 20/20 you could argue Finley should have just taken the sack. But go back and watch the play. Finley get the snap at his own 4 yard line. He immediately looks to his right. The RB (Emery) is covered. The WR on that side of the field is in his route and hasn't even begun to break out of it. The blitzer is coming. At that point Finley looks back to the middle of the field where Marshal is crossing and Gilbert is running a deeper drag ahead of him. Now, even though there is a blitz, Finley knows his LT should be there to handle it. It wasn't a situation where the defense overloaded to one side and the QB should have known the OL didn't have the numbers to pick it up. Finley tries to throw it over the top to Gilbert who had gotten behind the LB. Unfortunately, he is hit low and from behind in the process which takes all force out of the throw.

It is also noteworthy that Finley was hit at the one yard line. While it is easy for all of us watching the game to know he is standing outside of the endzone, it is a whole different animal when you are the one playing and trying to make a play under pressure AND have concern that simply taking a sack there could result in a safety. You can bet Finley knew he was close to the endzone before releasing the ball.

It was a confluence of bad circumstances. LSU was backed up near their own endzone. The initial read wasn't open and because the OL can't block, your young QB was immediately under pressure from a rusher he had every reason to believe was going to be picked up. His arm is strong enough that he can fit the ball in tight window (which he would have had to do to hit Gilbert), but he was hit at the same time he was trying to throw.

The frustration boiled over for Orgeron and he blew up (unnecessarily IMO) on his young QB. That was probably because for the first time all season the defense was playing pretty well while the offense couldn't take advantage. The defense that Ed "dreamed of" and one that had struggled all season.

I would hope that a review of the film and cooler heads would allow O to realize losing his shite on Finley for THAT play was probably unwarranted. Unfortunately, it was the spot where the pipe burst, so to speak, and the QB took all of the blame...even though it was FAR from all of his fault. That is the nature of the position
