Blair fits in well with Alleva’s overarching theme of all things corporate and uninspiring. It’s like listening to Siri or Alexa call the game for you.

I grew up with John Fergason and his great voice and iconic sayings, I got used to Jim Hawthorne and loved his unique voice. I will give Chris a chance but it will take some time for me to warm up to him.

Some of my fondest memories involve the times I would lay down next to my Grandpa on Saturday nights to listen to the LSU broadcast. John Ferguson and Walter Hill were an incredible team and LSU fans were lucky to have had them. Hawthorne made mistakes, but his passionate delivery kept your attention. I just find Blair a bit bland and too "professional" sounding. I wish he would let loose a little and project a little more passion.

I like Blair, but yesterday was not a good day. I had to listen to most of the game and he was constantly missing where the ball was spotted and was late giving down and distance. Those are essential for a radio call. He did not seem focused.

Didn’t Jordan-Hare build a new “media center” and move a good bit of the press to that box/suite in the southwest corner? If so, it would be his first time calling from that angle there. And I don’t think they travel with the entire team of spotters either.

I don't miss Hawthorne... had to stop listening to the radio broadcasts because of him. He was awful. Constantly calling the play before it was played and guessing wrong most of the time.

Chris Blair is much better. Listened last night but missed this particular call.

Laying in my top bunk bed with my little transistor radio listening to the games. The old radio guys could paint a pictipure with their words and passion as it was a necessary art in those days

When he said pick six on the radio as I was driving my wife asked who scored Aub or LSU?

Well I guess I would have been, "WTF just happened?!?"

Blair’s fricking awful and this is from a guy who didn’t really care for Hawthorne. How hard is it to describe what’s going on? Obviously pretty hard because it seems like Blair doesn’t give a shite.

Who's better in college football?

The problem is most of your retarded arse benchmarks are MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL OR NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE sportscasters.

Listen to other college football games on the radio. Blair is just fine, and alot better than most. It's you, not him.
Driving back from Auburn, the guys on 93.9 were an absolute shitshow of unprofessional biased babbling(I'm talking about on the replays of calls. NOT the post-game commentary). They didn't just say things like "that's unfortunate for our Tigers." after a bad play. That would be fine and understandable.

They outright bitched and complained DURING the game about everything going LSU's way and the refs hosing them.

That’s my issue. A pro’s pro doesn’t frick shite up like that. Give me a fan if you’re going to mess up the calls

It was once.

He's way more accurate and detailed than Hawthorne.

People liked Hawthorne because he was enthusiastic. He was terrible at actually describing what was going on and made far more errors than Chris Blair does.

Blair is very good at his job.

Should also be noted that apparently everyone had a hard time getting things correct yesterday.

The refs, the CBS guys, and the radio guys.

I've never seen refs get so many numbers wrong. That was absurd. I think it threw everyone off their game.

So I'm completely clueless here. Did LSU make him go back and re-record over his original call?

Naming the wrong player in a play is much easier to do than not knowing LSU has the ball and the pass was from Burrow to Dillon. You got to be asleep at the wheel to do this. Hawthorne's mistake looks very minor in comparison.

Probably.

That was a fairly regular occurrence with ole Jim.

He named a white safety when a black wide receiver caught it

I agree. My dad and I always listened on radio, since TV games were a rarity.

I nearly cried in 1982, was it? When I turned on WWL to listen to the game and heard Jim Hawthorne. He wasn't John Ferguson. It didn't sound like LSU football. However, he was excited by these two great freshmen running backs, Dalton Hilliard and Gary James (who I had followed at West Jefferson.)

That the three came in together, softened the blow of not having John Ferguson. Hawthorne grew on us, at least most of us, to the point where HIS voice became synonymous with LSU football just as John Ferguson's had..."Terry Robiskie lugs the leather for a gain of six."

Now, we've said good-bye to Jim Hawthorne, and if you hear the commercials he does, he went out on top, even for all the errors he made in various calls over the years, his voice is no longer the same.

I don't find Chris Blair as bland as some of you, do, you have to listen to his voice inflections closely, and you can hear he is into LSU.

Just my take. Part of me says being a radio sportscaster would be a dream job, but I know I couldn't do it as I can't focus that closely and find the words in a timely manner, and despite CB's deliberate calls, he's still timely and seems to be striving for accuracy.

Add into it, that nearly every venue, nowadays, seems to be moving the broadcasters farther and farther away as they can make lots of money selling the old press locations for luxury accommodations.

It was embarrassing, and probably Hawthorne’s biggest professional regret that he blew that call.

I’d have to guess, though, that there is a 50/50 chance that a spotter told him it was Jack Hunt.

We all make mistakes. Most of our mistakes, however, aren’t witnessed by thousands of people, and relived and ridiculed every year.
