Any of the old-timers here remember Jay McCreary?

The LSU basketball coach from the late '50s to mid-'60s. Later an assistant HC in the Maravich years. The Ag Coliseum years.
His LSU teams were often outmanned by some of the other SEC teams of that day, but always came to play.
What a fine man Coach McCreary was.

I remember him from after he retired. Not old enough to see him coach.

He was one of the coaches on Indiana high school basketball that Hoosiers was loosely based on.
He was a good man and a great person to work with.

Great guy. He was a big time high school coach and he's the coach who lost to Bobby Plump and Milan High which inspired the movie Hoosiers.

He was before my time but I know his son, who is now in his late 60's or early 70's. I didn't know about his dad coaching at LSU until he told me.

I knew him personally.
I worked in the Intramural Dept/Gym Armory 82-84 ish …. He was a fine man, gentleman and always cheerful. Coach J was driven to assist in running a phenomenal student recreational program and you could tell he was an intense coach back in the day.

He had a backcourt of George Nattin and Ellis Cooper that we're bombers, but needed some bigs to compete consistently. Good man as LSU representative.
