Any chance we go get Mikey Ryan and Ryan Costello back?

Does Jay get them back if they “decide” to enter the portal?

Costello can't hit in the Big Ten. Why would he go back to the SEC?
Costello slashline in Big Ten: .177/.329/.403
Braun slashline in SEC: .348/.474/.500

they saw him hitting a bunch of ooc homers early and think hes some beast of a player

How dare you come here with facts? People just hear local “media” members talk like Costello is the missing piece without doing any research at all

I wouldnt hate Mikey Ryan coming back to be our shortstop next year but obviously thats a long shot.
but if you think about it, would you rather play in the acc or sec? im sure he would love to play in the sec but its just not that common to leave a power conference for another power conference and then come back. I guess fontenot did it though.

I think it has more to do with droping a a million on a roster and gettin the production that a few hundred thousand would have gotten you had you just kept those guys that has everyone irritated. We payed good money for Yorke, Dardar and Caraway.

And none of those guys committed to us until after Costello and Ryan were already in the portal.

We're already only batting .500 on them under Jay (Fontenot and Priester).

For the right guy, Jay may reverse course. But I seem to recall Jay implying last year that once you entered the portal, you were dead to him. Mic Paul was the exception.
As others have pointed out, Costello isn't worth chasing.

What good money are you talking about? Jay had very little money while the portal was open. Prior to the House Settlement, giving to the Coaches Committee and NIL was huge. When the schools decided how much money each sport would get with Rev share, Woodard only gave baseball $245K WHILE THE PORTAL WAS STILL OPEN. Any money available to Jay in the Coaches Committee was no longer useful. He had to scramble to get more NIL. By then, the Portal was closed.
Some of y’all need to go back and look at the timeline. The baseball portal, House Settlement, NIL/school money/Rev Share all at the same time as CJJ spending all his time in Omaha was a perfect storm of a poor portal haul.

Jay had more NIL money than just rev share bud, this is a top ten payroll baseball team. He needed more and lost out on a few guys but this is a top tier roster in terms of money spent. I hate to break it too you. This season wasn't because of budget. They just picked and paid the wrong guys. To be fair there wasn't a ton of high end 3b, 1b, 2b and starting sec caliber pitchers in the portal, alot of the position guys leading the sec this year were brought in two years ago like Ace Reece, Daniel Jackson etc. Why I don't think this is fixed completely in one offseason. The tcu's, Ga techs, Coastal Carolina's of the world are doing a really good job of keeping their elite guys by throwing all their NIL at a few guys on their roster.

I don't really see the appeal on either side for Costello. He had a good non-conference but has regressed alot in conference play. We'd be taking a stab on his upside, with maybe only getting a depth piece out of it. He's not from here either, so it's not like he would be coming back home.
I could see some appeal on both sides for Mikey Ryan. Solid infielder with speed and can hit a bit. Position of need. He's also a Nola kid so he could be closer to friends and family. On the other hand, alot of moving parts in the infield with Milam dropping in draft rankings, Ruckert getting plenty of run, potential portal targets coming available, etc. If Ryan didn't want that uncertainty before, I don't think he'd want it now.
I think Jay will have big goals in the portal, maybe not in quantity but in quality, to build around the core and talented incoming class. He won't be outbid for the guys he has at the top of his list this go round. And, I think he'll fight hard for the top recruits to make it here to supplement the returning core and portal class.

No breaking needed…Bud.
Tell you what, next time I see him at a fundraiser, I’ll invite you along and let the man tell you himself.

quote:Why did you choose to surround Ga Tech (biggest spender in the portal) with a 5th place in the Big 12 TCU and a Coastal team that plays in the Sun Belt and had a bunch of returning starters, getting limited production out of their transfers?
The tcu's, Ga techs, Coastal Carolina's
You can say "LSU is a premier program" thing all you want, but we were absolutely shafted on rev share comparatively speaking. That has changed. NIL pay isn't the same as it was prior to the 2025 season.

Georgia Tech outspent everyone to get Jarren Advincula out of the portal. To say they’re only spending on their homegrown players is flat out bullshite.

It was an example of teams of all levels keeping players top, mid and lower tier that are concensus top 10 draft picks. Could have said Alabama with Lebron or Ucla with Roch. I just said GA. Tech because they are newer to the spending party. They all are near the top in spending. Point is the non traditional and traditional baseball teams are keeping their elite guys more often than not. So saying more rev share money is going to fix LSU going forward just isn't true.
