Started my vacation right after the game ended last Saturday. Drove to Highlands, North Carolina to spend a week in the Smokies. We had to cross the South Carolina state line for one of the waterfalls we wanted to see. Of course, our car was decked out in LSU and was in the parking lot of the waterfall. We climbed the mountain and was standing on the viewing platform (we were also decked out in purple and gold), when 6 gamecock fans walked up behind us. I heard them say... there they are. They had seen our car and knew we were around somewhere They told us they were trying to forget about the game when they saw all the LSU stuff. They weren't very happy campers

Had a few SC fans sitting around us. As far as I could tell, they were polite, friendly and good-natured.

Folding under the national light always stings, especially when the last time you were there was in the 80's.

I guess its one thing for them to be here with our fans... but for them to drive home and have us follow them to their state kinda pissed them off

All the ones we ran into at the game seemed very nice.

Everytime we passed by the tailgate where the guy had the live rooster as "pre-game" and the deep fried chicken as "post game" there were different SC fans getting the biggest kick out of it and getting their pictures taken with it.

And after the game this SC fan who was walking back the parking lot the same time as us kept telling people he'd see us in Atlanta - for us to take care of Bama and they'd take care of Florida. He was repeating himself a bit so I think he might have had a few. But heck, who didn't.

I was giving the 'cocks fans the usual "Tiger Bait" before the game, and they were all laughing and good-natured about it- confident like they thought they would win. But after the game, they acted a good deal more upset about it....
I know, it's tacky to taunt the losers, I was just excited and needed to get the taste of their smugness out of my mouth.

Nice. There is a rally nice restaurant on the same side of the street as the all white historic hotel ( I forgot the name of it). You have probably been to the restaurant, but it is freakin good. There was an Italian place right past the Same hotel. Did yall go to Bridal Veil or the park down the mountain from it. Great little Hike.

It is classless and tacky to taunt opposing fans... particularly AFTER their team just lost.

A little "Tige Bait" may be ok --- but the rediculous yelling in people's faces I've observed at times is over the top rediculous.

Have some class and tell 'em --- it was a great game... hope you enjoyed your trip... we'll see you again someday.

The positive word of mouth about people having a good experience when visiting LSU goes a lot farther than having some family of 4 say, "I'll never visit that shithole again"... so why would you want to tarnish or add to a negative reputation.

The gamecocks we had visit our tailgate were welcomed in, fed, given beers and we chatted about the game -- they could not RAVE enough about how AWESOME the visit to LSU was and one guy even said... "Damn, if I had it to do all over again... I'd be a student HERE... this place is incredible... USC's gameday experience is good... but this is a totally different level" we then took him across the way to another tailgate where the sponsor had hired an oyster shucker who was there shucking a few sacks of raw oysters and had oysters on the half shell --- these USC fans wanted to win -- but win or lose they had an incredible experience and will spread the word.

That's positive and it's good for LSU.

I was walking back to my car before the game started and I had a pack of 3 SC fans heckling me, but it was all good-natured. A little banter back and forth and they moved on.

We also had some SC fans at our tailgate failing miserably at flip cup Other fans are people too, and there's no reason to be hostile to them. Sometimes I think the stories of people being asses to them are all made up.

While in Highlands make sure you go to the Oak Street Cafe if you like shrimp & grits. They serve the best I've ever had. Check out the Glen Falls trail on the left off of Hwy 64 just past the Highlands Country Club. Nice falls there. Dry Falls on Hwy 28 is great too if they have finished the trail upgrades. It was closed this summer. One of the few falls you can walk behind.

Our trip to the game in Columbia in 2008 (?) was one of our better road trips. I found all their fans to be hospitable, polite and fun.

Our game coincided with their state fair so the parking was horrendous but the banter with their fans walking to and from the stands was awesome. Nothing like the Florida trash talkers.

USC hasn't been in the SEC long enough to develop the a-hole attitude towards visitors, yet, thankfully.

Huh? SCar was never on the National Stage in the 80's, unless you consider that magical Gator Bowl run that ended with the Tommy Hodson/Wendell Davis show, or Slobbering Lew beating Ohio State a couple times in minor Bowls, but that was in the early 90's.
