As much as I hate the nickname, the hype tm7 is getting as the honey badger is helping him. It is making him a figure that is transcending football. And the moniker is helping him with more press.

I hate to be pessimistic here, but what makes any of you guys think TM7 is worth a damn at punt returns? What has he done to prove this??

I haven't seen much to suggest he is good at Punt returns. We are running the same returns as we did for PP7.(Talking to the guy fussing about not double teaming the gunners)

Has he had an open return yet?

If he keeps up his current ridiculous pace, and gets a moment or two...he'll be in NY. Which would be REALLY cool nonetheless.

Getting ANY votes as a Soph CB, who is not (at least currently) lighting up the boards as a return man is unprecedented.

I would be surprised if the teams that we have played haven't tired to gameplan around TM7. I'd like to think that he is just that good of a player to still make a huge impact regardless.

I don't think you can gameplan him; at least not and expect to win. What are you gonna do- call fair catches on every punt to take him out of the game? Devote a tackle or tight end to pick him up on the blitz (he IS just 5'9 170, afterall)- and let the true linemen kill you? Have your WRs go down after the catch to prevent the strip? Or just throw at Claiborne and Simon exclusively?

Mathieu looks like he would have been a world-class boxer in another era; his handspeed and coordination is up there with people like Floyd Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard, etc. He doesn't just make solid impact with lucky fumbles taking place, he's ripping the ball away intentionally. Even with coaching, that still takes ability the vast majority of people just don't have.

I hope Les gives him a shot on offense. I would love to see him catch a bubble or slip screen once or twice this year. Or give him a reverse in the second half of a big game. He's got to be given some offensive touches to improve his stats if he is going to New York.

I'd argue his TD vs. Oregon could be considered "winning the game". That t/o changed the game and we took over from there. The guy is special for sure.
