As I understand it, Devin wasn’t given much of a choice either.

Or we could talk about Saban moving Marcus Spears to DE. Obviously it worked out for Spears and White.

Just goes to show that coaches often have a good reason for wanting to move a kid to a different position. Sometimes it’s because of a team need, which obviously isn’t great. But it’s often because they genuinely think that’s where the player fits best.

When you have a freak athlete like Ja’Marr Chase, Devin White, Marcus Spears, Dak Prescott.. these guys could pan out at multiple positions. Hindsight is 20/20 but we don’t know how good Chase would have been at safety. And it’s way harder when the kid is a sophomore/junior in high school.
