vs Georgia Southern

First game of the year, and I expect fireworks. I don't expect the typical lack-luster walk-through that LSU teams of the past go through for opponents like this. This is a game where the Defensive Line depth will largely come into play. I am NOT fan of scheduling triple option football teams, but that is a discussion for a different topic. LSU will probably be in a dog fight in terms of time of possession, but I fully expect LSU to win this game going away. With Emery, Chase, Marshall, and Burrow lighting up the stat sheets, this is going to be a fun game regardless of opponent.

@ Texas

Like I previously mentioned, I am not a fan of scheduling triple option football teams. And here is why. LSU appears to have a cupcake on the schedule before their battle @ Texas, but they will most definitely be feeling a little more sore than after a typical cupcake game.

This game is going to be a battle and I have zero doubts it'll be a primetime game on ABC. When's the last time LSU had one of those?

Anyway, Texas lost a lot of upperclassmen but also returned some skilled offensive players. Their entire starting defensive line are seniors. Their assumed starting linebackers are all juniors & seniors. Experience won't be the issue in this game for both defenses.

This game will come down to which QB can handle the pressure and which team controls the clock. I give the edge to LSU here by a score of 24-21.

quote:

vs Northwestern State

This game falls at the perfect time. Nothing needs to be said about this one. LSU wins going away (hopefully earlier in the game, rather than later).

quote:

@ Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt had a solid 2018 campaign. They lost a couple of ranked match-ups by 1 score and then to Florida by 10. They are going to be a tough team that you don't want to look past. Fortunately, there's a BYE week following this game and then another underwhelming opponent, so they shouldn't be looking ahead to any team.

quote:

BYE WEEK

I think we are going to enjoy the two bye weeks.

quote:

vs Utah State

This is a program that has been criminally underrated for the past decade. 11-2 overall record in 2018, they are going to be a team that is looking to play spoiler. LSU should overpower them in the run game, but this is going to be a game that the Rant will complain about even though LSU gets the win.

quote:

vs Florida

Revenge game. This rivalry and this game has gotten heated over the past 3 years. I have zero doubts that LSU will come out of the tunnel with a lot of fire and grit. LSU wins 20-14 on the back of the RBs and some clutch 3rd down conversions late by Joe Burrow and the WRs.

quote:

@ Miss St

This match-up won't be as sexy as it has been over the last 5 years. This is the game that scares me the most, though. Following a tough game against Florida and leading into a big time match-up against Auburn, this has upset written all over it.

I predict an LSU loss here

quote:

vs Auburn

I wouldn't expect this game to be a shootout. Auburn loses Jarrett Stidham, LSU returns Burrow. That's the equation I'm going to use in assessing this game. It's been a long time since LSU has had the advantage over Auburn at QB, and I think it gives the tigers a major advantage. LSU wins this one.

quote:

BYE WEEK

With the Auburn game the week before, I'm excited for the first time in a while that the BYE is before Alabama.

quote:

@ Alabama

I'm not going to say much on this one. I'm expecting a loss. I'm expecting points on the board for LSU, though.

quote:

vs Arkansas

Bounce back game for the Tigers. LSU rushes for 250+ yards and makes the pigs squeal.

quote:

vs Texas A&M

There is no way A&M is going to go into Death Valley, at night, on a Saturday, and get a win over LSU after last year. This is going to be your typical frustrating LSU/A&M game that will be back and forth. LSU won't be able to put them away, but will pull off the victory anyhow.

LSU's 2019 regular season: 10-2, with a loss to Miss St and Alabama.

11-1 with a loss to Bama, though Texas early in the season is no easy out. Don’t see us losing to state after they lost pretty much everyone who made them decent last year

The 2019 season will be our best chance to make some noise for a while. Anything less than 10 regular season wins should be looked at as a failure. If we can't beat a Moo State team on the road without Fitzgerald, we don't need to be in the CFP conversation at all.

I’m so tired of losing to Bama.

12-0 is my expectation.

Things that are key to having a successful season.

-Emery
-Oline
-Ensminger

Every other position should be loaded and more than capable of competing in every game.

10-2 seems like a good prediction. I'm not sure who will hand LSU this non-Alabama loss, though. I think State will take another step back, losing Nick Fitzgerald. Not expecting a loss there.

Ten wins should be the minimum. I’m predicting for 11-1. But Fla and A&M will both be tough games and I wouldn’t be surprised if we dropped one. I think playing them at home will be the difference.

No worse than 11-1, anything else is a failure. 2019 is the year, CFP or bust.

at Texas could easily be a loss.

Florida will be tough, but at least at home.

Miss State on the road won't be easy

Auburn but at least we get them at home.

A&M, but at home.

We could lose a couple of those, in addition to Bama on the road. 9-3 is a real possibility.

So glad we got that out of the way. Now we know tiger81's expectations and there will be CONSEQUENCES if they are not met.

Just messing with you. I'll take my "expectations" from Vegas, who takes the emotion out of it. But I do think 11-1 is achievable and 12-0 is possible. It's been several years since the prior sentence was one I could utter without lying.

Anything less than 11 regular season wins will be a big disappointment.

I just don't see the loss to Miss State. I think they're going to regress.

I could see 11-1 or 10-2, with the losses being to Bama and one of Texas/Auburn. Texas because it's early and on the road, although we do get a warmup before. Auburn because we've won a few in a row, and they could be due. LSU could and should win both those. The Bama game, I hate to admit, I'm going to file away as a loss until proven otherwise.

This brilliant assessment based on the mounds of empirical data you've amassed I guess huh?

OL, ALL about the OL improving to set the pace of play. Give JB time to make his reads and spin it downfield; give CEH, Emery, and Company a crease to win down & distance;and collectively facilitate the opportunity to gain 1st downs and extend drives (win TOP and field pos battle).

There is NO reason our OFF can't be balanced with the ability to make explosive plays. It ALL starts up front with 'above average' OL play. Win more battles than we lose at the LOS, all season, and we'll like the final scores.

LSU isn't losing to MSState. As of now there's one loss on the schedule. That may change as LSU rolls teams.

So anything less than 11 wins in the regular season is underachieving?

10-2 is reasonable, but NOT with a loss to State. We're simply better than that.

I see 11-1 more likely. I really wish I could predict 12-0, but, well, we all know why.

I agree there are some tough games, but its hard to predict which one actually will be a loss. We will likely be favored in every game except Bama and Texas.

ETA: And Texas only because its at home for them and they will be over-hyped at the beginning of the season.

Ole Miss, Vandy, Miss St , Alabama

All on the road is a very manageable road schedule.

We got our toughest ones at home besides Alabama.
