I’ve been a harsh critic of Ensminger as recently as yesterday. But after rewatching the fiesta bowl, I’ve changed my tune.

I’m not trying to pick on the kids, but our offensive line is woefully bad.

UCF was far from a “vaunted” front 7 and we missed assignments up front in the run game almost on every play. Deculus misses bad on run plays and there are more than a few where he doesn’t touch a soul. We attach, and then they shed our blocks with ease. It’s no wonder we can’t run the ball on Bama.

Pass Pro:

This is where I start to feel bad for Ensminger. There are VERY few plays where we protect with 5 and a RB and someone doesn’t completely whiff on a block. Not outnumbered, but completely whiffed on even numbers. Burrow has zero time on most of these plays and is usually flushed...eliminating half of the routes.

There is a large part of the offense that is max protect, leaving a FB/Hback and TE in to block. Leaving two routes.

Try calling an offense and getting someone open with two routes. This is where you see fades, stop and go, posts, but that’s it. Shot plays.

You know where shot plays do NOT work? (Low percentage)

The Red Zone.

So, my case study reveals that Ensminger really was hampered by the offensive line. Mainly by the RT and the LG, LT in the bowl game.

This isn’t a problem that is exclusive to LSU ...a lot of teams suffer with the same lackluster line play and DONT WIN 10 games and the Fiesta Bowl. So all in all, Ensminger did pretty good with what he had.

The quick fix is to add more quick game passing, allowing the tackles to cut block

Or

Add more RPO plays where you can take advantage of aggressive backers and slow them down

I have to agree. I never got far enough to dissect the play calling though. The OL was obvious.

The one play that comes to mind though is the PA pass on the LSU 5 that let Dylan Moses bury Burrow. No line protection deep in own territory, and they ran a PA pass... SMDH. That's the only obvious one to me though.

Regardless of scheme, everything comes down to execution. We’re subpar at the point of attack. Every play is designed to score. If our young OL recruitscan can live up to their billing, things can open up. We also need a homerun hitter at Rb. Yes, I too get frustrated about some of the red zone conservation, but E has done an admirable job this year with maybe the worst o line I’ve ever seen at lsu.

Spot on, especially on how the “fix” wouldn’t work as well in the red zone.

If you know this, and we have had these troubles with the line being as terrible as you say all season, why weren't more of these things added? We saw very little of it. Why?

555 yards and 40 Points! Like someone winning LeMans in a Ferrari and saying I could have done better with a better car! Please find another topic!

The Citadel scored 17 points on Alabama's defense and I'd venture to say our offensive line is at least as good as, if not better than, their's.

So, if The Citadel can score 17 in 4 quarters, why couldn't we score 1 in 8 quarters?

Good question. We ran 2 RPO plays in the bowl game. I don’t remember any plays all season where we had quick game routes (now, hitch, slant, bubble) and we took them pre snap. You can’t when you are pressed and we were pressed agains UCF for the most part.

Maybe next year?

Because Bama didn’t give a sh!t about the citadel and they run triple option....which is extremely hard to prepare for and stop...especially when you don’t give a sh!t

I bet Saban destroyed someone at halftime.

So, where does blame fall for not doing this?

I will start believing these post of experts when they stop posting under user names and start posting under real names.

I want to see people resumes on football consulting.

In no way do I condone the fact that we haven't scored against Alabama at home since 2014 or am I disagreeing that our O-line is AT LEAST as good as the Citadel's, but I don't think the effort put forth by Bama's D is the same in your comparison...

How would the only answer not be coaching?

I'm not saying that the OLine didn't prevent our offense from being much better. Not saying having better RBs wouldn't have helped. All I'm saying is that, even based off of what you posted, things could have been done to work around those deficiancies, and they were not done. So some of the blame needs to be placed on coaching right?
