I am a huge LSU fan from England.I fly out to Baton Rouge tomorrow in readiness for my first game at Tiger Stadium. I will be in Baton Rouge Friday and Saturday and then head down to New Orleans for a couple of days.

I would be really grateful if you guys can give me any pointers. Best bars (I enjoy a few beers!) Places to see? (or avoid!), how early do I need to get to the game and go into the stadium? Is there stuff going on throughout Friday, or does the fun start on Saturday? You get the idea - absolutely any advice would be gratefully received.

Geaux Tigers!!!!

Bars: I recommend The Chimes just outside the N gates of LSU on Highland. If you like beers and like to travel, sign up for the Round the World.

Arrival Time: Anytime before kickoff but I suggest getting there no later than 30 minutes prior to KO to catch the Seniors and their parents as well as the Band performing the Alma Mater, National Anthem and Pregame. It's just not a game without the Pregame.

Friday: Should be pretty quiet. But get to campus early Saturday to get in your tailgating. If you travel light, just walk up to any tailgaters and let them know you're English and a Tiger fan. They'll take care of the rest.

Places to see: In BR, LSU is it. Make sure you check out Mike the Tiger to the N of the stadium. When in NOLA you should at least spend a day in the French Quarter. You should also take a ride on the street car and maybe a river boat. A cheap boat ride can be had by taking the - free for pedestrians - Canal St./Algiers ferry to the Westbank for an awsome view of the French Quarter and CBD from across the river. Best time is just before dusk to see the sun set behind the city. Also, if it's running, you might want to take a ride on the Canal St./Gretna ferry. It passes under the CCC bridge and is quite a site. Also free.

If you go out to eat - why am I saying "if" [slap face] - don't go to the same places as the tourist, go to the hole in the walls, they have the best food.

One suggestion - if you go to Brennan's in the FQ, ask to be seated in the same tables as the locals, not the ones that the tourist get. Trust me, it's true. Now that may be difficult speaking the Queen's tongue so try your best Yat accent.

Areas to avoid in NOLA: When in the FQ, try to stay between Bourbon and the River and Canal and Esplanade and stay with the crowd. If you find yourself alone on a dark street, get back to Bourbon or find a cop ASAP. On second thought, just get back to Bourbon.

Beer in NOLA: If you're somewhat of a beer connoisseur, try Cooter Browns in the Riverbend area - Junction of St. Charles and S. Carrollton.

Nobody has said it yet but you should get off the Gramercy/ Lutcher exit and go down River rd to see the plantation houses. The main one being Oak Alley Plantation

And also if you like sushi, reserve a table at Tsunami. Its downtown on top of the Shaw building. Great vibe.
Of course all the campus stuff is awesome but BR has alot more to offer. You should take a drive through Perkins Rowe. Very cool shopping center.
Maybe an Aligator tour outside of Baton Rouge.

New Orleans= French Quarter and well lit areas

Oh and good luck and have fun. Good to see LSU is getting some exposure ovr there, and as a former post said, you chose a GREAT team and fanbase to be a part of

I have a friend that is an English Woman that will also be making her first visit to Tiger Stadium on Saturday. She isn't flying in from England but rather coming up from New Orleans. Cheers!

I was just giving the toothless lady a reason, but obviously she just hated you because you were an LSU fan and she was a USC fan.

The Brit is legit.
His use of the word "whilst" cemented his legitamacy as a Brit in my mind.

I'm sorry, but that's not going to impress him.

I hope you have a GREAT time. Over the years I have found that some of our most ardent fans have been the international students. LSU is a special place and you'll have a wonderful time.

Jonny, look for a tailgate tent on the Parade Ground immediately opposite the Campanile -- The Clock Tower. Look just to the west(left side as you're looking at the Parade Ground) for a large tent with a very large BBQ Pit. This is the Moore Family tailgate -- also known as the LSU Rugby and Baton Rouge Rugby Club tailgate. You don't have to talk rugby, but they'll enjoy getting to know you and will DEFINITELY fill you up and wet you up.

Yeah, you use the word whilst on this board and you better have a damn good reason. Like being from the mother country.

The Chimes is a fun place for a pint. The English beer selection in poor at best but they do have a great international "menu". Boddington's in a widget can is the nearest I have found in B.R. for that home flavor.
Just remember, if anyone offers you a Newcastle Brown Ale, smile and politely accept. They love that stuff over here!

I love how there are beers that we drink in the US as premium imports and they are viewed as piss in the countries they originate from.

Unfortunately it's a day game - thank you CBS - you'll miss Doug Kershaw's Louisiana Saturday Night played over the address system.

This is the closest thing to the real experience.
