I had a similar thought last night when I heard there is a go fund me for Detroit Mercy’s $50K to buy in the tournament. (I checked, and at that time, there was not.). I thought we LSU fans could start a go fund me to donate to the CBI tournament with the stipulation to not invite them after all the tournament is just a big moneymaker that takes their choice of a bunch of crappy teams.
I think the publicity would be bad though. Even though their team is buying their way in solely for Williams to break the record, it would look worse for us to pay them to not let him in.

It's weird, suddenly folks are remembering Pete. My friends who don't even care for men's basketball are suddenly up in arms that this black kid from a small no name school should not be allowed to tarnish Pete's name. Funny thing is they can't even name another famous LSU basketball player!!

Your know why it was believed to be unbreakable? Because college basketball eligibility runs out after 4 seasons. But this grown man got a 5th full season due to politicians trying to please everyone and just giving away a 5th full season of basketball. And now that the 5th season is over, they are trying to find ways to get a 14-19 team in a postseason tournament?

I get why LSU fans want the record to stand, but it’s going to be broken at some point. Is there any evidence that this young man is a PoS or something? Pistol Pete is still going to be an all time great with or without this record.

Is it though? Only way it is a possibility now is because of 5th year due to Covid. You think the NCAA will keep handing out additional years of eligibility in the future for others to play 5 full seasons?

What a joke a tournament is if you allow teams that are way under .500 on the season like a 14-19 mid-major. Didnt even have a .500 or better conference record either at 9-11.
I can somewhat see the argument for a mid-major getting in even with losing overall record if they had a winning record in conference play (could have played a slaughterhouse of OOC schedule for $$$), but under .500 overall AND under .500 in conference play? Joke
