Sage Ryan always seems to be near making the play, but never quite makes the play, esp in coverage.

I remember thinking this with Todd Harris for years, always near the ball but rarely makes the play.

Seems like Sage gets picked on in coverage game after game and like his hand is there to swipe at the ball, but always seems to miss or is a step slow.

Players like Jamal and Delpit had the instinct to make the play. If they didn’t get a hand on the ball they hit them so they would drop it

He’s still young. Hopefully next year he can have a strong bounce back season

He has been a big disappointment to me after we all freaked out after he was about to commit to Bama a few years ago.

He needs to find a role. He’s a tweener, but maybe he can be a late bloomer like Jay Ward.

He looks like a redshirt freshman who is playing a little more than otherwise if the team has a bit more depth at DB. Only around 5' 9" or 5'10". He should be a safety but team needs have him at nickel.

He was also a stud returner in HS. I don't know if he is having trouble fielding kicks in practice or what but I would like to see him have a chance to return a kick or punt at some point.

Jacoby went through this and ended up being intricate on the 2019 GOAT team. He hardly saw the field for a couple of years until he found his spot and became a play maker.

How is this not a legit reason though? Not everyone develops at the same pace.

His ability to be step for step with seemingly good technique but nevertheless give up the contested catch is uncanny. I don’t quite remember anything like it.

On the one handed catch, Greg Brooks has to lay the wood and separate the receiver from the ball. He simply doesn’t even try. He runs right past Mohammed.

Ryan does seem to get picked on, but on that play the safety didn’t help at all.

I feel the same he’s always in position but his ball skills are trash he has to get more aggressive when the ball is in the air I think that comes over time as he builds confidence
