quote:yep, after he made it clear that he was never going to change the offense and stubbornly retained Cameron as OC, it just was just time for a change
I certainly understand and shared the frustration at the end, it was time to move on

But there is a segment of our fans that visceral hate the guy and have from day 1, which I don’t get
Yes even from the start people hated Miles. Same as with Orgeron. It'scrazy
quote:I thought Miles was a great coach, as good as anyone, except for that one huge problem, his stubbornness in keeping Cameron and not wanting to modernize the offense
I’ve always thought he was a good coach, not a great one.

Miles was a successful head coach before being hired at LSU, Orgeron was not. It's not a fair comparison.
Eta: I should say Miles had a winning record, I'm not sure successful is the best term.

no im pretty sure our 2017 team making the playoffs is over.

ut regardless, every coach of any good team, should say that before the season start
not publicly. no good coach publicly makes claims about any level of success.

well it was a combination of both. You can't run Cameron/miles antiquated system without a o-line that is physically capable of whipping the crap out of the opponents front 7.
what year are you talking about?
in 2015 we had the most olinemen make all sec, a rimington award finalist at center, and led the country in yards before contact.
just say it. you want to gain yards passing instead of running. no matter if we are a pass 1st or run 1st offense our offense is going to look worse against the better defenses we play.

because ctiger is one of the most football ignorant posters on this site. check his post history. he never once backs up his claims he just shits on miles and everything lsu under miles.
while you and i disagree you try to atleast back up your stances with points about the actual playing of football

God love you Rick, sometimes I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with some of the discussions I've been having lately with these guys.

just looked that up and he said that to the players in the locker room after the bowl win over Louisville. What is wrong with that? He did not "make a promise to the fans" that LSU is going to the playoffs in 2017. so again further "fake news" about Orgeron from the Orgeron haters.
Which, by the way, some on here seem to take everything he says as a "promise to the fans"
Boohoo, Orgeron promised "ME" he was going to hire the best OC available, He didn't hire who I wanted so Poor little babies, boohoo.
bOOHoo Orgeron promised "ME" he was going to the playoffs in 2017. maybe ya'll need to go change ya'll diapers now.

he let it get out publicly.
literally zero other coaches do this.

who is crying? the point of posting that article is to disprove this ignorant notion that everyone knew lsu was a rebuild.

its in no way fake.

that was one of his main selling points.
do you see any other good coaches saying they are going to make the playoffs next year?
not a single one

the head coach in 2011 was the biggest liability on that team
What?
He gets his team through an undefeated season and you're ripping that?
Miles has his issues but good grief, you're stupid little argument that Miles was the "weakest link" is ridiculous. You think it was just "luck" that the 2011 season went the way it did?
He won a natty and got to another one. The BCS screwed that up. We already beat them on the road, the next best team should've been the opponent. That was in the hands of computers and a few human votes.

LSU hasn't beaten Alabama since.
But it's O's team now. So who's to blame for that? O sure has a knack for being down in two consecutive games with Bama (I'll even count the interim year). We haven't led by a single point vs Alabama since O became the head coach.
That's on Miles too?

we've spent more time down by 2 possessions against bama than we have spent tied with bama

he was fired the last two times he was an offensive coordinator (though it was many years ago).
And the reason he was fired, please.
At A&M he increased the O production in yards and scoring. JS fired him bc he didn't care about the increased yards and points, from JS himself! He wanted a run first run second and run third offense.

Personally i thought Ensmingers offense was way better than Canadas.
To me this is NOT even the issue!
Why did Orgeron hire Canada in the first place if he didn't agree with his offensive style is the real issue!
Did Orgeron not look at film on the offense Canada ran?
To hire a top Offensive coordinator only to fire him a year later because "You don't like his style of offense" is as much or more on the Head Coach who made the hire than the Offensive coordinator.
Which style offense you like is debatable and I am no way a Canada fan but Orgeron screwed the pooch on this deal there is no way to spin it otherwise.

Question: If you were investing in a company or buying stock and were given a business plan as to how your money was going to be spent and what your return on investment was going to be, then 16 months later that business plan was not followed and you weren't seeing the return on your investment that you were expecting, do you just stay quiet or do you start asking questions? Would you consider those questions to be unreasonable? Is that crying?
I certainly hope you realize that we are all shareholders in this thing.

Nice. When you just take out that excerpt, it sounds like a ridiculous statement. We were just talking about calling a timeout though.
As much as I crap all over O, I do try to be fair and I honestly think he has been very good with clock management.

O brought most of this on himself. All that crap he spouted about “we gon hiah da best cawadinatas in da country yaw yaw foobaw”.
So he had to make the flashy splash hire (Canada) instead of the guy he really wanted and would mesh the best with his staff and personnel (Ensminger), and it set us back a lot. Speaks to his leadership ability, IMO.

Miles never won the big 12 and never even went the big 12 championship game. His record was 28-21, I guess thats technically a winning record. He only won 9 games once before coming to LSU and had just finished 7-5 before leaving.
