Your right, tattoos weren't invented hundreds of years ago or anything
Actually, more like since Neolithic times. LINK
Arguments about cultural preference like tattoos, hairstyles, ear rings and other piercings, makeup, breast implants, etc. can never be decided becuase it comes down to a matter of personal preference and cultural norms.
When I was a kid it confused the heck out of me that the older crew cut/flat top wearing guys would bad mouth the long haired beard wearing hippies and then I'd see them in church where the Jesus we worshipped was depicted in statutes, drawings and paintings as long haired and beard wearing.

Haven't read this whole thread but I'm an old fart with no tattoos who knows a lot of old farts who have tats. All of them regret it.
When my kids were teens I put it to them straight..
"People spend millions of dollars every year having imperfections removed from their bodies. Why would you pay money to have an imperfection put on?"
It worked.

A butterfly today is a buzzard in 20 years. "Clean cut" is such a relative term. Images are so subjective. To some "skin head" represents racist. To others it is an acceptable way of dealing with baldness, much better than the comb-over.
You have to wonder to what extent the craze of tattoos speaks to a need to express individual identity, in a day when cultures want to classify or pigeonhole you. Many learn too late, however, that the tattoo is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I have no idea, because you didn't list the year of your birth. Why is that?

9/10 of the old guys from WWII and that era that I have spoken to wish they had never gotten their tatoos.
People can get them, and I don't give a rip. But if I can see it, I won't hire them. Just like they are free to get them, I am free to tell them no thanks.
Just as a disclaimer, I think the hair styles these days are pretty cool. Nothing like my straightlaced look, but I like the way the younger people look. I would look stupid, but it looks great on them.
And unlike a tatoo, when times change and/or they grow up, they can change it.

i'm not covered in tats, but i have some visible ones and i won't regret them, they remind me of who i was whenever i got them.
that said, that's me and i don't have trendy tats. but people have been getting tattooed for a long long time, it's just more open now.
also, when my generation is all 70 and covered in tats we won't care because we'll all be 70 and covered in tats.
