this isn't a bag of cash to come play deal. It is more of a financial support(arrange a place to live) while you complete courses to get qualified deal. The article implies a bag of cash to come play. It helps LSU greatly that the kid never played.

We had a similar situation to this in the 90's w/ Jack Sells.
He was fired, and the penalties were light.
However, he faxed our playbook to Ron Zook at UF during the week of our game (after he had been fired).

CHIEF sports writer!
Jesus fricking Christ! That is the best the Reveille can do? A hacked up article by the "CHIEF sports writer" which makes allegations of major infractions from unnamed sources (a former player?). Was Alleva given a chance to comment? Miles, Hicks, McCarthy? No mention of secondary source. Editor better have some basis for that headline too! ......I weep for the future of journalism.

I call bullshite on paying Hicks. He was not that big of a recruit to have to pay him to come here.
I swear going by the people on this board LSU is falling a part. There are some dumb arse people in this world.

No worries.. after we die, there won't be any thoughtful, comprehending readers out there, anyway...

if a USC assistant coach paid a recruit, i can guarantee you that Pete Carroll was indirectly in on it too.

There's a link to the article on TideFans. Several articles have been pulled, but there is a google page capture from before the article was modified slightly. Being as it was pulled, I tend to think someone ran their mouth without all the facts; and were threatened with slander if they didn't remove/retract it. If the article is true, it's big trouble, pay for play is always a primary violation even if the guy didn't play. We had it with Albert Means and it cost us huge. Good Luck.

AGree. Whether or not he played a down is irrelevant.

Yeah, it was someone just running their mouth. As said a bunch of times, it had more to do with providing him a place to stay while he was still waiting to qualify.
McCarthy is already being fired over this and the player was suspended for an entire season. A slap on the wrist to top it off and no big deal. Especially if it was just providing him a place to stay.
