List is pretty hard to argue with. So many to choose from, some greats get left off.

Whoever anyone puts at QB, it needs to be their backup

Given all the choices, that is a really, really strong list. I would not be able to make a slam dunk argument against anyone on the list. In any event, a few more names that might warrant consideration:

QB- Bert Jones
RB - Charles Alexander
Cecil Collins (if he had stayed longer)
DL - Henry Thomas
CB - Liffort Hobley
Tre White
LB - Brady James

Why do you have 2 free safetys? Why are neither of the top 2 all time rushers in program history on your team? AJ Duhe?? All Purpose is not a position btw, although both kicker and punter are yet I don’t see them.

Thanks but I’d say a backfield of LF7 & Kevin Faulk would be the way to roll

List is pretty solid imo. Would probably change out Van Buren for Fournette.

Nacho was a really good player. Mawae is entering the HOF this year. Lots of good centers to choose from, but KM seems like a pretty easy choice here

I must have read 400 of these in my 15 wasted years at TD. The arguments are always the same.

Casanova was a stone lock IMO. Mathieu was the most impactful college defender I have ever seen

A lot of great safety’s in LSU’s history

A.J. Duhe was a tremendous college player and was an excellent player for the Dolphins. There wasn’t a clear cut guy ahead of him in my opinion

Kevin Faulk was the leading rusher in SEC history when he left LSU. He is one of the 5 greatest players in school history. Van Buren was a different era from Fornette and Alexander but he was an all American and became a HOF player in the pros. All time greats for both of those guys

They have All purpose on most all American teams. It is usually an offensive player who also returns kicks. Billy Cannon was an all American RB and kick returner who also was the best LB on a national championship team. Also won the Heisman. Hard to not find a place on the all time team for that guy

You asked for kickers

P - Brad Wing
K - our boy this past season had the best season in LSU history. Hard to pick against him

Is it greatest LSU players or best players at LSU an pro career? Nacho was one of my idols as a younger lad plus he was a terrific player.

I think Chad Kessler would have to be the punter.

Greatest LSU player. Performance once they leave college can validate or invalidate the perception of college greatness

Nacho was a great player. It would be hard to argue he was better than Mawae, Todd McClure or Ben Wilkerson

It's always impossible to compile such a list because we always believe the players of our youth are the best, and because none of us were able to watch them all play. The argument could even be made that no list would be complete without Doc Fenton and Gaynell Tinsley.

I had known Tommy Casanova since I met him on my recruiting visit to LSU for the Notre Dame game in 1971, and a number of years back I happened to be on campus one afternoon when I saw Tommy sitting on a bench outside the Union, talking to an elderly gentleman.

I went over to talk to Tommy. It was a warm afternoon, but the older man wore a 3-piece suit and tie, very dapper and dignified.

After talking for a minute or two, Tommy said, "I'd like you to meet Mr. Tinsley." Pretty special moment for me. Two of the greatest Tigers ever, just sitting on a bench, chatting, while students scurried by, totally unaware. I had known Tommy, but the chance to also meet Gaynell Tinsley was memorable.
