O + DC Aranda = 2019
O + New DC Pelini = worst D in school history (2020)
O + New DC Daronte Jones = on track to equal 2020

The one constant

2019 was one of the best defenses we've had when it needed to be.

I'll be shocked of 21 UCLA is as bad as 20 State was. I think you're underselling just how bad last year was.

The 2019 D was not very good at all and if not for the scoring machine that was the 2019 Offense, we could have lost 3 games, easily.

I'm not sure what that even means. I think we've had several defenses better than 2019. Offense carried us that year.

Side note on the one constant, he’s been the main recruiter and known for being an outstanding recruiter…yet look as the slow decline along the OL

That's an excellent way to say overall average at best but the offense putting up 50 points a game bailed them out.

I think it means that while the 2019 defense wasn't the best, they stepped up when needed and delivered in crunch time.

I never blamed Pelini.
It was a series of events that caused the disaster.
Players loved him during his first tenure.
That according to Hester.

No, Pelini was god-awful. Jones could turn out worse in the end, but it doesn't make Pelini less awful.

The one constant is O. He's supposed to hire the best assistants and just recruit and motivate, but he can't help himself.

This is flat out untrue.

You want to see the potential of our defense in 2019, take a gander at the last 4 games of the season. You know, when it really mattered. Not Ole Miss or Vandy.

A lot of yall hang your hat on Vandy as proof the 2019 defense was bad, but if you're looking at points per drive with both 1s in, our defense performed very well in that game.

frick, man, our per possession scoring advantage DEFENSIVELY in 2019 was top 10. Not top 20, top 25. Top 10. Was it the 2011 defense or 2003 defense? No. But it was very good, and I'd argue one of the best defenses we've had since 2000.

You think Pelini didn’t know how to defend against State’s air raid last year?

Orgeron wanted to set the tone that game and show his new “attacking” defense that he jabbered on about all 2020 offseason.

LSU got roasted to the tune of 600+ passing yards. That was because O doesn’t understand defense but demanded that LSU play his way.

Pelini is gone and what happened? Some pretty basic passing concepts destroyed LSU on just nine completions.

O is the problem. He’s back to micromanaging. He’s running the players into the ground like Miles did.

Local radio hosts kept saying that Pelini was last one in first one out last year. Would you spend 14+ hours at work every day if your boss constantly undermined your work and essentially took away all decision making authority? Probably not—you’d do the bare minimum to keep cashing checks, take your lumps with the arse chewing and mentally check out.

They easily could have lost us the Bama game if Clyde didn’t go complete beast mode.
