Was it Gausman's signing that wasn't announced until 2 or 3 hours after the deadline? Everyone thought we had him.

Why is it baseball players can get drafted, negotiate a contract without and agent and then decide whether to come back but it can't be done in basketball
Because MLB has 40 rounds and NBA has 2.

In the current twitter world, I doubt that happens now

Also, I do not believe that there any senior RHP selected ahrad of Poche. Teams take chances good junior RHP to get them into their systems a year sooner, but senior RHP is a different animal. A team is more likely to take a comparable junior or high school arm with fewer innings than a senior with similar stuff. So Lange would have that against him next year too.

No one in that draft deserves it more than Alex.
Really?

Meh....I would bet that if by some miracle Lange returned and he had another Lange-like season next year he would get drafted probably a bit higher. Teams would be able to get a first round pitcher for slot, or less, and free up a ton of money to sign other picks. Just for that reason alone I think he would go higher.

College baseball players don't declare for the draft, the NBA and NFL require you to declare for the draft.

He's got 1 hr.
Would make the loss of Eric Walker less painful if he comes back.

He isn't coming back

You think they didn't try to work the change up into his pitches this season? They tried and he wasn't highly successful with it. In college it becomes a mix of:
- do you keep throwing the change up in games until you get comfortable with it and get it right.
- do you stick to what you do best and give your team the best chance to win.
In college they are going to go with the second option. In the minors he is going to keep throwing the change up until he gets it figured out so that he can work his way up.
I don't disagree with any of that, but wouldn't it be fair to say that the more reps he would potentially get up until next season he has the potential to improve. I agree that he hadn't yet developed that pitch and Mainieri had the responsibility to do what would work best for the team this year unlike what would be the case in the minors.

Yeah, just take a 30% pay cut. No biggie

He has two options.
1. Do what you said and come back to LSU and try to work on other pitches through the summer and maybe throw it some next season. All while being paid $0 to do so.
2. Sign with the cubs and let them start making damn sure you work on what's needed to move up through the system. Oh yeah, and have about 2 million dollars to do it.
Which option would you choose?

If the Cubs do not sign him, I believe they lose that 1.7 million in slot money.
Also- Yes it was Gausman who wasn't announced until a few hours later. I think he was offered 3.8-4 million which would be dumb to turn down.

I'm not saying he should come back nor that he will. I've already said as much in this very thread. All I said was if he were to come back, it's not a certainty he has no room to be drafted higher next year.

From Jim Callis at MLB.com
35 min to go, unresolved top 10 rds: Expect Greene, Cooper, Wong to sign; not sure on Lange, who could affect Velazquez, Estrada. @MLBDraft

Y'all all are crazy if you don't think he has leverage as a senior. He's a 1st rd pick not a 7th rd pick. He goes 12-2 next year trust me he has leverage .
Posted on 7/7/17 at 3:31 pm to Double Oh
What leverage does he have as a senior?
