I remember his announcement and I was pumped up. We had two Elite 11 QB's coming in and I thought we were good for the next 4-5 years. Is it player development or is it our offensive scheme?

LSU lands Anthony Jennings
Sonny Shipp
Jun 7, 2012

LSU landed its' 17th commitment on Thursday when Marietta (Ga.) quarterback Anthony Jennings gave Les Miles his verbal pledge.

Jennings, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder, completed 165-of-273 passes for 2,187 yards with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions during his junior season. He added another eight scores and 500 yards on the ground.
This is LSU’s second quarterback in the 2013 class as Jennings’ dual-threat ability will be a nice complement to Hayden Rettig, who is more of a true pocket passer.
Jennings released the following statement regarding his decision to choose LSU:
“I am very fortunate to be in the position I’m currently in, and I realize that I did not arrive at this point by myself. First and foremost, I want to thank my family for their constant love and support. I’d also like to thank all of my teammates and coaches as well as the teachers and administrative staff at Marietta High School. Special thanks also goes out to the entire Marietta community which is always so supportive of our program. Playing football at Marietta is special.
“The recruiting process has been very interesting. I’ve had the chance to meet many coaches from some of the top college football programs in America. I’d like to say thank you to all the universities that expressed an interest in me throughout the recruiting process. To have so many great programs across the country interested in me was a very humbling experience. I definitely want to express my sincere appreciation for those programs and wish them nothing but the best in the future.
“After a very thorough evaluation process including a lot of thought and prayer, I’m extremely proud to accept a scholarship offer from LSU. With this decision, I get to live out a dream of mine to play in the best conference in America, the SEC. LSU is a perennial powerhouse in college football and I’m looking forward to helping the Tigers continue to be in the National Championship hunt year in and year out.
“I’m looking forward to earning the respect of my future teammates at LSU and to play for a coach like Les Miles, someone who has won a National Championship in the past and knows how to get his players to perform at their very best. I’m also very excited to be coached and mentored by Steve Kragthorpe. As my position coach, we have already developed a great relationship and I know that will only get stronger in the future.
“Though I’m excited about my future at LSU, 100% of my focus and attention is on my teammates at Marietta. There is much work to be done to get ready for the 2012 season and I am committed to making myself and our team at Marietta better each and every day. We are truly a family and we are all committed to attacking the 2012 season together to represent Marietta the best way possible. My time as a LSU Tiger will be here soon enough, but I am today, and will be forever, a Marietta Blue Devil.”

I have been a Harris supporter and pretty critical of Jennings. Seems like a great kid though, Wish him nothing but success. hopefully the light turns on at the college level

No doubt he is a Les Miles type of player based on the words he used, but nice guy and good high school qb does not automatically equate to a good SEC quarterback.

RS was the best QB in nation too. Miles must know a QB when he sees one.

jennings seems like a great kid. real character guy.

but mark richt not offering him should have sent up red flags everywhere. elite 11 or not, richt didn't think he was a good QB.

Who else recruited him? Why didn't anyone in Georgia want him. We had to go to Georgia to get their sloppy seconds and now he is starting at LSU?

Makes no sense

Oregon recruited him pretty heavily. His final two were LSU/Oregon.

LSU...where QB dreams come to die

Of course it's coaching and scheme.

hands down, the inability to recruit/develop QB's is his biggest issue.

unlike most, i'd attribute his refusal to switch to other QBs (like Lee, BH) not to be borne out of stubborness (which is what most on here think), but based on his personal knowledge that the second guy sucks worse.

either way, its his fault he's in that pickle to begin with.

Jarrett Lee was an Elite 11 QB out of high school.

They don't always pan out.

Possible that it is not the player(s) but the coaching of the QBs???

Do we have problems with other positions like we do at QB? It's not HS for them either

I doubt Jennings was a game manager in high school, but he's been conditioned to be one in college. Maybe that's his ceiling?

I just know this. Game managers limit mistakes and complete a relatively high percentage of their passes. Jennings isn't great at doing either.

Now he gets props and praise for picking up first downs with his legs, for sure. But please, don't run zone read with that guy anymore. If you run it, do it with Harris, where it's been a successful play with him running it.

We didn't offer dak Prescott (at qb). That logic can be busted many times over.

Let it go dude.

You ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, RS had a shitty work ethic? I mean, Miles gave him a bounty of opportunity. But a senior that still can't run crisp routes?

IMHO, the JJ years were full of people like this. Its incredibly encouraging to me to see how this current group of players has responded to adversity this year. It's decidedly different than those teams. Seems like we've got a lot higher character players now.
