I wear my flag on the left shoulder of my flight suit. Stars face forward and stripes face backwards.
This is the navy way by the way.
Army wears them backwards.

It's only worn backwards on the right shoulder. The flag faces forward (stars front) regardless of side.
The army has it on their right shoulder because their union patch is on their left.
My department patch is on the left and backwards flag on my right.
It's simply flag etiquette.
