I agree 100%. And don’t agree with all the doom and gloom in here. So much of anything is establishing yourself and settling into a rhythm. If Max hits Palmer on the vertical route and he goes for a TD, then UCLA will be forced to adjust. And I believe it only takes a few of those plays in a game to swing things.

Our rookie coordinators need to get better. Max needs to continue to grow as our QB. The O-line needs to do the best they can….I don’t think they will be great. But do their best. We have a chance for a good season. 2018 setup 2019. Great seasons are built over time.

The most glaring issue to me was with the play calling and lack of the mental side of the game with max . First the playcalling, we found the formula for moving the ball . We figured it out fairly early . The quick pass game was there but peetz didn’t stay patient. We could have upped our time of possession by staying patient and hitting Palmer underneath more . Then if you want to take a shot, you just run the same look with a double move. I hope the coaches realize this instead of going max protect today.

Now for max, dude has got to be able to diagnose the blitz better. Hell the coaches are telling you what’s going on because we look at the sidelines for 20 seconds every play. How about flipping the run plays away from the blitz and throwing into the blitz?

Max was flustered much of the game due to UCLAs blitz packages. Some adjustments by our staff could have slowed that down ( no screen passes, no flair passes all game) but we did nothing to help him out. Still it was defense that lost that game.

I don’t think they will . They may just keep the tight end and running back in on most pass plays instead of some.

How about the fricking rpo game to freeze some linebackers?

Mcneese has a monster pass rusher. Just so y’all know ahead of time and everyone isn’t destroying whatever tackle is on him

While I do agree that QB play was an issue, the defense was a much bigger issue. Had we scored more, UCLA would have just adjusted on offense. We couldn’t stop anything they did. They ran right through us, around us, and over us. To me, that is a much bigger issue as UCLA isn’t even that good.

He and the WRs were not on the same page. It was like these blitzes were foreign to them.

Almost every one of those drops the score board was bitching about at halftime were because of late and bad throws.

Maybe, but did we make one great catch? I don't really remember any catches that stood out as great, but I could be forgetting. To win that game with as bad as we were on D and in the running game, we needed to come down with a couple of those passes which could have been better.

While agree that there were a few missed big play opportunities due to Max being inaccurate or rushing apthrows that would have been huge players in the game, we can’t ignore 3 obvious issues that added up to a loss…

1) Chip Kelly out foxed, coached and schemed us both offensively and defensively. That’s on Coaching. He created a ton of consfusion we never got fixed.

2) Physicality and tackling - UCLA looked more like the SEC Team than we did.

3) No run game - 49 yards versus giving up over 200 yards was atrocious.

Not sure if the QB accuracy issues are correctable

I’m not sure I agree with you on how easy it would have been, but I can tell you that the QB issue are just as correctable as they were with Brennan. It’s amazing how quickly people here forget him bailing in the pocket and not setting his feet in the State game last year, especially the first half. His accuracy was off because of it and he also held the ball and made a couple of really poor decisions.

He fixed that thanks to film study over the next two weeks and his accuracy and numbers jumped dramatically. Max was doing the very same things last Saturday. Those issues are just as fixable if he will step up in the pocket and step into the throws. If you watch, his accuracy vs UCLA was absolutely tied to his footwork. But it’s up to Max to override his natural instincts and fix it, because I’m sure Peetz and the analysts have been showing him this on film all week.

Max held onto the ball too long.

He definitely did, but sometimes it was like even a fast release still wasn't fast enough with the blitz packages they were sending.

That was by far the best defensive challenge he has faced in his three starts and it was just hard being the QB in that game with zero running game and UCLA blitzing on about 70% of the plays. It was his worst decision-making game as he made some dumb decisions and threw off his back foot way too much, but he was the least of my concerns for LSU in that game. Minus the dumb decisions and obvious issues, he took the pounding, kept getting up and had LSU within 1 score of taking the lead in the 4th. We could not stop them though and we had to become one-dimensional due to that and our poor running game and that was ball game.

Many of the current issues on defense were actually showing in 2019, but was under the radar because of having the greatest offense of all time.

This is why Nuss and Howard are going to push him next year. They are pure throwers of the football. Max sadly just isn't. The number one trait of a good QB is being good at throwing the ball. If you aren't that then doesn't matter what other traits you have.

Exactly what I said. We were in it till fourth quarter. I think a major issue on defense is it was the personnel are for spread offenses , I e more defensive backs, lighter linebackers, etc, but UCLA lined up and ran with the big back and we couldn’t stop it not ideal but it gives me some hope it can be fixed
