Last night my grandfather passed away. I was born and have spent my whole life in Tennessee but grew up watching the tigers because of him and have been a fan for as long as I can remember. He and my grandmother brought the Cajun culture to Tennessee and it’s engrained in our family forever. He spent the last ten years or so about 90% blind, but every Saturday, he sat 2 feet from the television and watched every game (baseball was tougher for him, but he watched all he could of that too). The tiger faithful lost a good one, and I hate that he couldn’t experience another full season with a chance at a national championship. The tigers created a bond in our family, and I know this next game will have some major feels regardless of the outcome. Happy holidays to you and your families and GEAUX TIGERS!

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Thank you for sharing your story. I love that you grew up a Tiger fan in Tennessee. It gives hope to this mom raising her North Carolina born kiddo on jambalaya and all things purple and gold.

Your grandfather and my dad can watch the game together. My dad passed away on Nov. 7, 1993. LSU played #5 ranked Bama the day before. Many a Sat. night my dad and his two young sons would sit around the radio listening to the game while dad drank his beer and smoked his cigarettes. He was a huge fan that never saw a game in person. As he laid on his death bed that Sat. afternoon at MDA he had not spoken for a couple of days and responded hardly at all when spoken to, being in a semiconscious state. After LSU beat Bama for the first time in five tries I went to his bedside and leaned over him and told him the Tigers had just beaten Alabama. Without opening his eyes he cracked about a half inch smile. I knew he had heard me. He passed away about 24 hours later. I just told my brother two days ago I wish dad could have been alive to witness this year's team.

My dad raised all of us kids in eastern Kentucky as Tiger fans. I actually decided to follow his footsteps and attend and graduate from LSU.

My dad passed on Dec 19, 1993. Twenty-six years later I still feel as if he is by my side as I watch the Tigers play. I might not get that same feeling this next game as it appears that Dad may no longer need to sit next to me in spirit now that he and your grandfather have already made heavenly plans to hang out for this game together.

Your post is a fitting tribute to a fine grandfather and it brings out memories for me, as well as a big case of the feels. Thanks for taking the time to share this wonderful story with us.

Happy Holidays to you and your family as well. Prayers on behalf of your family will be offered from our home today.
