A real Brian Kelly assessment

Fellow Ranters,
Today you will be greeted with the 33rd coach in LSU’s rich 123 history. The coach is the all timing winningest coach in ND history. Many ranters will allude to his deficiencies based on the records they feel are important.
Most will crap on his record vs top 5 or top 10 teams. They will use this as a negative talking point and feel like it correlates to LSU’s given situation without taking into account that data.
Brian Kelly coached at ND for a majority of his tenure as a coach. A school with academic and recruiting restrictions. He masked his biggest weaknesses( getting skilled athletes) by controlling the lines of scrimmage. His teams offensively and defensively have branded themselves as physical and tough. They lacked the Jefferson’s, Chase’s, and Marshall’s consistently in his tenure. This was primarily due to structured flaws in Notre Dame’s system.
Historically, predecessors of LSU coaches had records that were flawed also. Ed O had 3 wins prior to his arrival at LSU vs ranked opponents. By 2021, AT LSU, he was in the top 3 coaching rankings vs ranked opponents. Evidenced based practice showed that despite Ed’s weaknesses he could still beat top teams solely based off talent alone.
When evaluating Brian Kelly you get to deduce that a proven winner who used the lines of scrimmage to mask obvious talent deficiencies and consistently win football games will succeed. This is what Scott Woodward and seasoned footballers see. LSU will get the talent and now an incomplete coach gets all the pieces to a formula that will win for years to come.

Great post! Now, let’s get to work so it’s ready for publishing.
1. Get rid of “previous”. All predecessors are previous.
2. Get rid of “even” in “even despite”; it’s redundant.
3. What were you going for with “equivocate”? Find another word for whatever you meant.
I meant what I wrote above, though. Your post is spot on.

He’s a grown man’s coach.

Nice honest assessment. Look if I'm being completely honest this hire didn't initially wow me he's not a flashy new fararri he's an f150 proven and sturdy. From a football perspective he is a he'll of a football X's and O's coach which is what we have been missing since Saban left.

lets add...he is literally the most successful coach LSU has ever hired coming in...EVER

You forgot to add that he is going to bring some much needed discipline and toughness to this team as well. Im all for that. This team is soft as hell

As you probably know, I've said for the last 15 years that LSU wins despite the coaching that it receives.
I was shocked that the choice was BK but I am very relieved that he is the choice. I truly expect him to maximize this opportunity and have us competing for the CFP as early as next year. Let's dance!!

12/32 years isn't a majority. He also spent 13 years at GVSU.

yes. And his current class has kids from 18 different states in it. He will do well in LA.

This is the most logical thing anyone has said all day. I still hate the hire, but after reading this I am feeling a bit less melty.

It’s a solid hire. Not what I was expecting and not the flashy hire I thought we’d get but I’m excited about it

There are 3 names for sure maybe 4 in all of college football you could argue are better than BK.
Nick Saban
Dabo Sweeny
Kirby Smart
AND
L. Riley and I think BK is a much better coach than LR but you could make the argument LR is better.
So LSU went out and got without question a top 5 coach in the nation and pulled him from a school that rarely if ever loses their head coach to another school. Woodard knocked this hire out the park and you can hate it all you want but any rational person realizes its a phenomenal hire.
