I've seen some people on Ole Miss boards mention that after the name "Ole Miss" started being used in the early 1900s that some LSU fans started calling your school "Ole Lou" for a short time period. Has anyone else ever heard of this? And this is a serious question, if there's any chance some of you could take this the wrong way.

I was born a bit after the early 1900s, but I never heard that term used.

I have heard of LSU being referred to as "Ole Lou" before. But I don't remember enough about it to expand on that.

I'm not quite old enough to remember the early 1900's. I've never heard "Ole Lou"; closest I've heard is "Ole War Skule".

Well yeah I'm aware no one has probably ever heard it actually used, I was just wondering if anyone could confirm it.

I actually just found this though

It was used very infrequently in the early to mid 1900's. It did not catch on, but you can find newspaper articles and game accounts where LSU was informally called "Ole Lou" from time to time.

I'm only old enough to know LSWho? and about Corn Dogs glad Ole Lou did not catch on.

Newspapers tried to cute up thier headlines with "Ole Miss wins at Ole Lou" headlines back in the day. Never was in general usage, as was "Ole War School" which was in common usage until coeds came and the move to ". . .a greater university." in the 1920's when the accoutrements of the Ole War Skule began to dissappear-- Cadet Uniforms, regimental housing, code of military conduct, etc.
(Press can be wry with headlines, which can mislead posterity into confusing wit with custom. In c.1952, when Ole Miss upset #1 Maryland, Washington Post headlined "Little Ole Miss made a Little Ole Mess of Maryland." Fortunately, today they have survived as the Terps rather than "Ole Mess!)

Never heard that. Don't believe it. Although, as stupid as it is, it does sound like something an OM fan would come up with, thinking they're clever.

Don't know if LSU has ever been referred to as "Ole Lou", but I can pretty much guarantee that if it did happen, whoever started got the hell beat out of him.

LSU was called Ole Lou before Missipeepee started calling itself Ole Miss.
