Agreed but given that the media has already tried to paint Lane as the bad guy, they're really gonna try and make news of us "firing" our interim coach who "held it all together this season"
But that too shall pass. Franks relationships mean a lot but you could slide Tyrann into taking over the Nola pipeline now that he's retired.

Or just let him leave. LSU has won 3 natty's without him.

As a coach, I don't get the Frank crying. Our running game is awful.
I don’t want him to coach.
I want him to recruit.
If the NIL is similar, he can get a recruit across the line.
In short:
Wilson remains a recruiting difference maker (for LSU, not Ole Miss).
LSU improves its on field coaching staff by bringing in Kevin Smith as a high priced analyst to work with the running backs.

Is there a potential solution to make LSU good at the running back position and not waste all this 5 star talent we have??

I remember the years in the 80s and 90s when we constantly lost players from New Orleans to teams like Florida State Oklahoma, Nebraska Alabama… If that happens again, it will be the worst decision Coach Kiffin has made so far at LSU. I sure hope Verge reminds him. A big part of the recruiting advantage LSU Has is New Orleans

He will not be on the staff next year. Book it

Frank has an offer from LSU in hand, but it is not as running back coach. The decision is his to make.

He has to be in one of the 10 on-field roles if he wants to recruit, but analysts can coach on the field now.
Its amazing that so many around here dont know the rules.. oh wait its not

Sorry, but Frank was not good RB coach this past year. Our running game was not good, LSU ranked #121. Ole Miss ranked #24. We won multiple national championships without Frank. He does not make LSU. Kiffin needs to assemble the best coaching staff to get us to a championship. If he feels it's someone else other than Frank in that spot, then so be it. Kiffin is the $13 million HC, not Frank. If he doesn't like what Kiffin has to offer him, then it's his decision. LSU is the national brand. LSU is bigger than Frank.

We’ll be fine

Wilson has never won a national championship at LSU. He's expendable

Obviously Lane ain’t on the Frank train. I’m good wit it.

Who cares… wasn’t he running backs coach?
Didn’t do too good of a job…

Why is it that some people always think we will never be able to recruit if we don’t have Ed O or Frank Wilson? There’s no evidence to support this.

TL;DR Tell Kevin Smith no and keep Frank Wilson. You will be stupid not to.
I hope Ole Miss pays to keep Smith so we don't have to lose Frank. Or, Smith could get an NFL job. Because he attached himself to Kiffin, he has a track record of RBs that are decent NFL role players. I will say this. The one year he left Ole Miss to pursue his one year dream at Miami, the RB coach brought in a freshman Judkins and a former 5 star and transfer RB Zach Evans, and had an INSANE run game. Since then, the RBs under Smith have been more volume and less explosive. Kewan Lacy barely averages 5 yards a carry, but because he's so strong and Ole Miss runs him so much at the goal line, he'll rack up touchdowns. Look at Judkins after Kevin Smith returned and then compare him the one year without him and the one year at Ohio St.
I'm going to say this, and many of you can frick off if you are not in agreement. Frank Wilson is a better RB coach and recruiter than Kevin Smith. Frank's position has been plagued by horrible blocking and running schemes. I've already pointed out how LSU's RBs and OL played infinitely better in running and run blocking under Denbrock. The RBs, not adding Jayden Daniels, averaged over 5 yards a carry under Denbrock and the Davis OL coach you hate. The major problem was Sloan and his scheme. Sure the OL hadn't been developed good either, but both in combination is how you got this abomination.
I'm going to equate this to getting rid of Corey Raymond because we had a shitty defensive coordinator. Again, I hope like hell Smith stays where the frick he is at or decides to move on up or somewhere else. LSU needs Wilson. I really hope Kiffin isn't dumb enough to do what Kelly did with Raymond. Tell Smith you're deciding to keep Frank. The guy who had Stevan Ridley, Jeremy Hill, Leonard Fournette, and Derrius Guice as stars at LSU. Great backups who became NFL role players like Spencer Ware. Guys who were great backups like Alfred Blue, Michael Ford, Kenny Hilliard, Terrence Magee, and Darrell Williams. Again, to repeat my damn self, LSU RBs under OC Denbrock averaged over 5 yards a carry we literally have more explosive and talented RBs now and Sloan has them looking like chumps.

quote:This is such a dumbass talking point that people keep bringing up. We went to a national championship in 2011 based on run game, defense and S/T. ANY kind of decent QB play and we win a championship. We had a 2 loss season in 2007 and 2007 Ohio St wasn't in the same stratosphere as 2011 Alabama. 2003 had NFL level RBs and future head coaches all over the field with Saban. Joe Burrow had the GOAT CFB season at QB in 2019 with NFL talent everywhere.
LSU won 3 Natties without Frank. I like Frank. But he isn’t the key to winning.
Nobody is saying Frank is the "key to winning", but he is damn sure better than Kevin Smith.

Frank isn’t that important bro

Keep him at RB coach. If will allow him to recruit.
Kevin Smith can be an analyst, which allows him to coach running backs on the field, but not recruit off site.
Our running backs haven't developed under Wilson. His running back rotation is stupefying. His recruiting value is overstated. Why would we pay for that?
