It's fun when they play with emotion and aren't making mistakes left and right.

Unfortunately we haven't seen too much of that lately.

Let's hope that Miles can make the proper changes to the offensive staff in the offseason. It's not going to magically get better this year.

We were driving home from a party at my parents for the LSU/Alabama game and my wife said, "What's wrong with you? You don't seem to be into LSU this year." I replied with, "There is nothing to be excited about."

I have made a game or more every year since 01 and have not gone to one this year. I may go Arkansas, but I rather just sit at home or someone else's house and drink away the misery of watching LSU.

Good thing I have a shite load of Saints tickets!! That shite pumps me up and gets me exciting....kinda like LSU used to.

It's really not worth going anymore. You can hear the boos from the stands on your TV and you won't be subjected to all of the coaches in the stands yelling in your ear to "frick Crowton and MILES!"

Yes it can be fun.

But lately the display of confusion, lack of discipline, and lack of preparation make watching a game a frustrating experience.

When your team shows up, exectutes, and gets beat... well that's sports. That is a lot easier to tolerate than:

When your team shows up, makes blunder after blunder, looks uninspired, and almost loses to a massively inferior team (that in truth looked much sharper), it is not fun to watch. Tech out schemed LSU and made far fewer mistakes. It was their lack of D1 talent that did them in, not their gameplans, fundamentals, or execution for the most part.

I concur that several games this year and last year fit that bill.

I don't know why or who is to blame; although the buck has to stop somewhere and ultimately, whether its the head coach's fault or not, he is responsible for the product on the field.

The next two games will tell us a lot. Win them both and much of the negativity will subside.

Lose them both and look out!

"enjoyment" is closely linked to "expectations".

(1) If a fan doesn't expect much from a performance (of anything) then a moderately good performance brings a much greater amount of enjoyment.

(2) The reverse of this is also true. High expectations which are rewarded with average-to-poor performances are usually quite un-enjoyable.

The Saban years were generally of the (1) variety, whereas the last 2 years with Miles have been variety (2).

The solution for LSU/Miles is to lower expectations so that fans expect the average performance that they are most likely to get with Miles.

Accordingly, Miles and AD staff should get the salary reductions commensurate with the lowered expectations, and be bonused only when average expectations are exceeded by great performances.

I could live with this ... what I cannot abide is paying millions of $$ to underperforming executives (coaches) who are producing spectacularly average results. If one is being paid outrageous salaries to produce excellent results but instead has average results and numerous excuses for it, I can't suffer it.

Now all you "posi-Tigers" can rail at this philosophy and tell me to get off the LSU bandwagon but I have been on the LSU bandwagon much longer than 95% of you, and I am not getting off. Instead, I am demanding a better product if we are going to pay a premium to those who produce it ... and I and every other Tiger fan have the right to do so !

Flame away !

I've had fun at all the games this year

2007 was probably as fun of a season EVER. As much of an emotional roller-coaster it was, I look back and say "Damn that was fun".

Thats just me though.

Your thoughts? Remove all of the emotion, the 'you're a hater' comments, the negatiger labeling, and the irrational discussion of Lee over Jefferson, and the let's get rid of Miles speculation... (which is not going to happen anyway), and just deal with the bare facts.

Is LSU football fun anymore? Has Les Miles sucked all of the life out of the LSU football team and the fanbase? Does his milquetoast, mid-western blockhead style and approach to football ruin the experience for the passionate LSU fan?

I think it's a legitimate question. Obviously, I believe it does. Without the flaming, name calling and sarcasm (hard for me to do I know, lol). Let's look at it rationally. Who has had fun watching/being at an LSU game this year? To be fair, here are a few examples of where it was somewhat fun...

Fun.

-UGA.. defense was badass, close game but exciting and fun, LSU reached deep down and won against a team that it hasn't beat in a long time and got some revenge.
-Tulane... I was there and it was fun, lots of scoring and defense shut the Greenies down.
-Auburn...Tigers came out and played their brand of football and won against a big rival.

Not fun.

-Washington...letting a horrid Pac-10 nobody run up 400 yards of offense on us.
-Vandy...not opening up the offense, and scoring few points against a weak sister in a lame effort.
-ULL...unbelievable, this game should have been an arse raping, yet we let them hand around for too long and look lethargic.
-Moo St....having to rely on two miracle plays to beat an outmanned and sorry arse team that has been irrelevant in the SEC since 1995.
-Florida...losing was understandable, looking like you have a high school offense was not.
-Alabama...solid effort for a few quarters, then more bungling, lack of preparation and attention to detail, and poor coaching leave a bad taste. Again, losing is not the issue, looking like you don't know what you're doing under pressure is.
-La Tech...doesn't need an explanation. Probably the worst showing in Tiger Stadium by an LSU team since the Curley Hallman years. A complete clusterfrick and a stain on the Les Miles tenure.

Conclusion: The last 2 years of Les Miles at LSU has sucked the oxygen out of the room. LSU football is no longer fun.

Your thoughts?

i don't feel like reading this entire thread and i am sure the positigers flamed the crap out of you for this ... but this is a very good post .. very thought provoking ..

How much of that is paid by anyone on this thread bithcing?

I am not talking about the 10 buck or 50 buck "get your sticker" variety. I mean those that pay 25k or more.

I would imagine those guys are not voicing their opinion here.

Seriously, are we now just saying that the program would be ok if we just paid Miles less? Really?

Flame away !
No flame from me. I have been on LSU's bandwagon since my earliest memory of LSU football - which coincides with Billy Cannon's Halloween Night Run. LSU runs in my blood.

So that being said:
I am an LSU fan.

I do expect LSU football talent to be as good as it gets, and that talent will be prepared and motivated toward consistent football excellence, which translates into intense and fair play on the field.

I expect LSU to win each time they take the field.

I expect LSU to play hard and smart football, as much as a college team made up of college-age men can play football hard and smart.

I expect that during any given season, LSU will face some very worthy opposition on the field; and if that worthy opponent plays harder and smarter than LSU, they can beat LSU. I just don't expect that to happen often.

I do not expect that LSU will struggle in beating markedly weaker or less prepared opponents, or lose to them, except on the rarest of occasions.

I do not expect LSU to look unprepared or unfocused on either offense or defense or special teams on any kind of regular basis.

I do not expect to see repeated mistakes from game to game, often by the same players.

I do not expect LSU coaches to look confused or unprepared or lost in game situations, but to be actively "in" the game and highly involved in motivating excellence on the field.

I have not found this season or last season to be meeting a lot of my expectations as a fan; I have found this team to be lingering in areas I do not expect far too many times this season and last.

Therefore, if I say I am not finding this season (or last) as much "fun" as I was expecting it to be, I have my reasons. You may not agree. You may not have my standards. Maybe you are ok with anything in LSU unis. But I have been to the mountain top and to the abyss with LSU over the years. I can assure you, this underachieving style of play which has begun to be LSU since last season and into this one is not the mountain top. Not by a Mile(s)...

I didn't say it would necessarily be better - it would just be more appropriate ... furthermore it might induce the coaching staff to get back to the more aggressive, attacking, disciplined teams we have had in the past.... or to leave for "greener" pastures. One or the other.

I have been supportive of the program and the coach for the past 5 years, just recently in the last year I have been critical of the way Miles talks to the press and fanbase, but I have never been a 'fire Miles' fan or overly critical above and beyond what a normal fan is.

So your statements do not apply to me.

My displeasure has mostly been founded in recent events.

It applies to ALL of you sonnyboy. Either support the team with everything you have UNTIL we start having back to back losing seasons. When we are winning at an 80% clip and winning every bowl game we are in there is NO reason to bitch about a DAMN thing. So, back the team and teh coach or SHUT THE HELL UP

Just curious.

All I know is it would have been Peyton's fault that it wasn't fun anymore.

I think the biggest problem for most of the so-called "Negatigers" (I am one of these as well) is Nick Saban's return to the SEC. As much as the Positigers love to point out that Saban lost to UAB and almost lost to Troy, everyone knows that Nick Saban is responsible for LSU's rise to elite status. Everyone knows Les Miles inherited a gold mine from Saban, as much as they hate to admit it.

After watching us take down #3 Bama and dismantle a top-ten Miami team during the 2005 team, I was over Saban's departure and was hoping for his success at Miami. Our overall dominance in 2006 helped things as well. Did I miss him? Yes. Did I notice an increase in sloppiness in our overall play? Yes, but our success made it easier to forgive those problems. However, when Saban publicly accepted the Bama job the day of our Sugar Bowl game against ND, everyone who considered themselves an LSU fan let out a collective "Oh shite!"

We knew Saban's capabilities as a coach and what that meant for us. The coach who revived our program from the shambles which DiNardo left it would now be doing it for a division rival. At best, the Tiger Nation's feelings toward Miles were nothing more than luke warm, but now that Saban is back in the SEC, Miles was put under a microscope so that we could criticize his every fault. While people tried to put on a front and "March for Miles," they secretly wanted Saban back, and now it kills them to see him propelling Bama back into the elite.
