A name no one has ever brought up for the LSU job...

(keep im mind I'm a huge Miles supporter, so take this post FWIW, but I just thought I'd throw this name out there because I'd be blind to think Miles is going to be here forever)
Art Briles LINK
How would yall feel about that down the road?
-seems to be a winner everywhere he goes despite obvious disadvantages at Houston and Baylor
-huge ties in the state of Texas

His overall record in college is sub-500. No thanks to anything out of the Big 12...exception would be Pellini.

Another name no one has mentioned: Kathy Lee Gifford...

I tend to agree that Briles certainly wouldn't be on the top of my list, but IMO he's certainly a "realistic" possibility for a replacement down the road.
IMO Unrealistic candidates (you still give them a call and make a push for them, though):
-Gruden
-Saban
-Harbaugh
-Chris Peterson
-Will Muschamp
More Realistic candidates:
-Gary Patterson
-Art Briles
-Tommy Tuberville
-Greg Schiano

Already signed a 6-year contract to TCU after Notre Dame offered him the coaching job.
He has also stated that he is not interested in leaving TCU.

Gary Patterson and staff.....come on down!! Your the next coach at Lousiana State University.
That's my pick FWIW

is there a job opening I don't know about?

Saban will never come back. For anybody out there reading this, get that idea out your head because if there was ever a pipe dream, that would be it.
Next on the list of unlikely coaches would be Gruden. He's an NFL guy. And once coaches have succeeded in the NFL, they tend to think a little better of themselves than college coaches. I think Gruden is one of those and would never come "down" to the college level.
Aside from those two choices, I think every other coach is pretty much open game on your unrealistic list. Of course, they don't have to even entertain the thought of coming to LSU, but they are realistic imo.

There is a correlation.

I'm actually glad about that, I know many are fond of Patterson, but he's kind of a blah hire for me. No doubt, great coach though.
If I were in charge, and this is assuming we are looking for a new coach in the near future, I'd call Saban and offer him $6 million per year, lifetime contract, and guaranteed job as AD when he decides to call coaching quits.

Here is to Meeechgan falling apart, LSU winning out, and Miles going home.
Kyle Whittingham would be on my short list.

LSU would kick arse with this guy. The only reason he would leave Boise for Baton Rouge would be MONEY.

Check out Chiz's 5-19 record before coming to Auburn.

I'm so torn with Michigan.
At the beginning of the year, I was rooting for Michigan so that they wouldn't go get Harbaugh before LSU had a chance to get him.
Now that we're 7-1 and it appears Miles would really have to collapse down the stretch to not be back next year, I'm back to rooting against Michigan in the HOPES that Harbaugh tells Michigan no and Michigan comes and rectifies their 2007 decision and hires Miles.
I really like Miles, but I've also grown tired of the division in our fan base regarding Miles.

One possible candidate with a connection to current LSU staff would be Duke's David Cutcliff. Not doing great at Duke but who has. You have to take real classes and they are grossly undersized. He is a great developer of QB talent and would put together a potent offense. Keep Chavis right where is and I think it would be the making of a good combo.

Agree. And it would have to be huge money. Personally I could't see anyone willingly leaving Boise and its quality of life for baton Rouge.

Only thing(s) that scare me about Chris Peterson (and it's a huge concern IMO):
-Houston Nutt
-Dirk Koetter
-Dan Hawkins

No way LSU hires an Ole Miss reject. No way that ever happens IMO.
If it does, I think I will vomit. That said, I think Cut is a decent coach.
