A lot of talk comparing this season to 2007, but 2006 seems like a much better model

2007 we were preseason ranked #2, and didn’t get our second loss until the last game of the season.

2006 we started out top 10 but not really a preseason favorite starting ranked behind Auburn and Florida as the favorites in the SEC.

We open up with a huge OOC blowout over Arizona and then drop a brutal week 3 road game at Auburn in a game that Auburn was never the same in after.

We bounce back with a blowout of MSU before dropping a frustrating road game to Florida to fall to 4-2.

We finish October strong before a brutal November stretch going to Knoxville and Arkansas against top 10 teams with Alabama and OM at home too.

Not saying we can expect the same results because this is year 1 of a rebuild vs year 2 of Miles and many years since Saban woke the sleeping giant.

But that 06 team was seen as one that improved throughout the year, and one they we would have loved to have a chance for a rematch against Florida, who went on to win the national championship.

With the playoff, who here wouldn’t love another shot at OM or UK?

Getting a win at Auburn is such bigger test than the 06 team had against UK at home to get to November with everything still in front of it, so hopefully this team is ready to put the lessons learned on the road to work next weekend.

That 06 team was maybe a year too early, and 20 years later that could certainly be the case with 2026 as well.

Finish October strong

I think the 2006 team was better than this one. I actually think both 2005 and 2006 may have been better than 2007. But this team still has a lot of untapped potential and room to improve so we'll see
