A good article about potential HC Nathaniel Hackett

I’ve heard growing rumors that Green Bay OC was on Woodward’s short list. I knew nothing about him, and this article was a good summary of what I’ve found.

Is that Paul's boy? Used to work for Marty Schottenheimer?

Yes, he’s Paul Hackett’s son. I had never heard of him, but seems like he could be a great fit.
quote:
Hackett has been the cultural energy and schematic force behind some of the biggest turnarounds in the sport. A desolate Syracuse football program became a record-setting Big East contender behind an unheralded quarterback who became an NFL draft pick. The Bills went from perpetual loser to 9–7, nudge-the-Patriots contention with Kyle Orton and EJ Manuel under center. Blake Bortles went from wayward Frisbee–throwing project to AFC title game participant, with his best numbers across the board coming under Hackett.

He should be at the top of any head coaching search, either NFL or P5. Offensive Guru.FACT

Add him to the ever growing list!

Then add Dan Campbell to the list if we're just adding people. Very well respected. Believes in building from inside out not outside in. He's probably an NFL lifer but the guy can coach and build the right culture.

Yeah, the more I read, the more I think this is a great idea by Woodward.
quote:
LaFleur said: "He's one of the most organized guys, people, I've ever been around. He can do the job of about four people. He is a machine that can just knock out work.
He's so intelligent, knows everything that's going on, whether it's in the O-line room, quarterback room, tight ends, running backs, doesn't matter.
"I know this: We wouldn't be where we are today without him."

I don’t get it. He’s been the OC for a bunch of mediocre and bad offenses, especially the passing game. He’s been on staff for several other forgettable teams and offenses.
Suddenly he has Aaron Rodgers as his QB, and Matt Lafleur calling plays, and he’s some guru.
Plus, he has very little college experience, and no head coaching experience at any level.

I didn’t get it either, but the more I read, the more I think I see what they do:
1) He was Stanford’s Recruiting Coordinator
2) He set Big East offensive records while being the OC for a Syracuse team with no talent
3) He ran a top 5 offense with Blake Bortles as his QB in Jacksonville. Blake. Bortles.
4) He’s been a key to Green Bay’s high powered offense
5) He has a lot of the intangibles you look for in a head coach: highly organized, hard working, high football IQ, great culture builder, and knows how to build a structure and identity

So he’s a break dancer?

My buddy is friends with Nate. I hope he gets the job so I can get some field passes.

Honestly one of the best people I've seen mention when thinking outside the box. My worry would be the obvious.... would he jump to the NFL?

I agree. I think whoever is advising Woodward on this one nailed it. Very out of the box idea, but could be a real home run.
Would love to see him paired with a DC like Glenn Schumann.

Can you have your friend confirm there have been talks? I know from people inside the AD he’s high on their list, but not sure if they’ve contacted his agent yet. Would be a good barometer of how far they are in the process.

Love out of the box thinking like this, kudos if he is, in fact, being considered.
Biggest issue for me is availability. He's coaching until mid-January, at least.
