I hope they get him squared away. I really do.

But is anyone else a little concerned that if we lose him there will be a push from sources to do away with a live Tiger mascot? I mean, we kinda hear this already but it falls on deaf ears because it's not like we are gonna get rid of him..... But does it get any traction if we do not have a mascot at the time?

Unfortunately, you are probably right.

What kind of cancer does he have? I must have been under a rock and missed this.

Yeah. This is one of the first things I thought about. SJW and animal rights activists will try to squash another live mascot. But with the truck stop tiger verdict I think there is no way to stop LSU from getting another tiger. Only if they cave to the bitching.

Other side of the coin is that because he's taken care of so well, this was found early and is treatable. He will be examined closely and regularly going forward to check for any other cancer areas. Even though this spot won't spread doesn't mean that it won't happen elsewhere later on. It can and will be argued that his situation will lengthen his life.

As long as it is born in captivity there is zero problem with it. PETA people will voice there opinion because that is what they do. They disregard facts to push their agenda. Welcome to the new America. Mike's habitat and living situation is probably better than majority of zoos out there.

I don't think there is a tiger in the world that is better taken care of than Mike

I don't think there will be much push.

There are a surprising amount of tigers in need of care/good homes as is due to irresponsible keeping as pets.

Additionally, tigers are so endangered in the wild, responsible zoos and habitats are actually well regarded.

Given Mike has a superb habitat, I think the tradition lives on.

Yep, wouldn't surprise me if this was LSU's last live tiger mascot regardless of the outcome of his cancer.

There will definitely be push back from PETA and the like. I always fear the worst since our administration is made up of a bunch of pussies. But if the rest of the LSU community makes themselves heard then it shouldn't be a problem.

My main concern is who is going to be doing the search for the next tiger. Whoever is doing it should be looking for a tiger with the right disposition. By all accounts, Mike V was a very social tiger and because of that he had no problem going to the games. I think the decision makers should learn from Mike VI that you can't just pick any tiger. You need one that fits the special environment at LSU.

Mike diagnosed Spindle Cell Sarcoma
quote:

Dr. Baker consulted with specialists at LSU and around the country to put together Mike’s treatment plan, which consists of a new and highly sophisticated form of radiation therapy called “Stereotactic radiotherapy” or SRT. SRT delivers radiation to the tumor in a highly focused manner, sparing surrounding, normal tissues so complications are reduced. Treatment may be given as a single, high dose or as fractionated doses given daily for up to three days. This treatment is not curative but should extend Mike’s life and allow him to live comfortably for some time. SRT will be performed by experts at Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center here in Baton Rouge, in conjunction with Mike’s veterinary team.

Eventually, the radiation-resistant cells remaining in the tumor will resume growth. As for timeframes, it is estimated that without treatment Mike VI could live 1-2 months; with treatment, perhaps 1-2 years.

The live mascot brings alot of tourism to the campus. I doubt they will give into the pressure.

With the funding issues the state and university administration are saying we have, i would not put it past this current administration to do something like that. I have no faith in the current clown show at LSU right now, and even less in the retard running this state, but I would be willing to donate in order to keep the live mascot on 1 condition, fire F. King and Joe Alleva.

There was some bitching about it when we got Roscoe, but I hope we move forward anyway.

This Mike still has some time though, go enjoy seeing him again.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Mike VI is affectionate, engaging, and sociable--the most of any previous mascot. That's why hundreds of thousands visit his habitat every year and the main reason why the LSU campus is a tourist attraction.

But oh heavens, he doesn't want to get in that tiny cage in some outmoded tradition.

I know, I know, now we'll hear more about "SJW's" and "the pussification of America"--when the REAL point is, all you overgrown frat boys and your bitching and moaning about Mike and football games will be the reason if, as likely, Mike VI is the last live mascot to live in that habitat.

Thank you. Time to move on and realize that there will likely never be a live Tiger at a game in TS again. We should, as a people, be ok with this too.

Yea I'm a bit concerned about that as well. But their argument could be that if he were in the wild, he wouldn't be receiving top notch medical care and he'd suffer.
