Think of it this way. New Orleans is one of the most historically significant cities in America. It has enough charm, ambiance and world renown character and cuisine so sporting events, Hollywood directors, and other celebrities flock here to soak it up.
Since I don't recall the last super bowl, final four, network series or Hollywood blockbuster to be set in Tuscaloosa, why not let that inbred c-lister prop that school from Alabama. Would you really want him representing our fair state?

Lucas black in real life is a Bama fan. If you have paid attention to the show there is a back in froth within the cast over lsu/Bama. In real life the whole thing is a big joke between the cast , crew and writer.
To the point it's an inside cast joke.

I'll comment to the OP: I noticed this the one time I watched the show, and it irritated me too. The show wasn't very good anyway, and getting some random Bama fan crap from a show set in La, from one of the main characters, that just turned me off completely. Hadn't bothered to watch the show since, though I likely wouldn't have anyway.
