I've sent that same scenario to the NCAA, BCS, and conference presidents each of the last five or six years. Deaf ears.

We could even keep some of the bowls, too. I like the idea of rewarding the team for a winning season.

Things won't change if it keeps anyone from making as much $$$$$....

I think I'd still rather a playoff or a +1. This year it's great because LSU controls whether it will play in the MNC. Other years, like was pointed out earlier, LSU might not be in a position to control it's destiny and it would be up to voters to decide who is better and I don't think I'd be having as much fun as I am now.

Keep the BCS format using the Cotton bowl for the fifth game in place of the NC game, but play a +1 for the national championship with the top 2 teams after the bowls. This keeps the traditional bowls, but will provide a more accurate NC game with one more quality win for the top teams.

Has anyone bothered to ask the players if they're in favor of a playoff or not?

That this is a playoff is silly..

quote:

1.Oklahoma 2.Wisconsin 3.LSU 4.Stanford

Those are not likely the top four teams,
nor will it yield a true champion.

No, they players were not asked.

and though this may seem rude, they do not count.

but If they were asked, I am sure that those players in the NC game THAT WON, would say no...

the ones in the losing team and all of the other teams left out would say yes.

Besides, most players are really only in the system
2 -3 years (discounting red-shirt)...
the system would be an ongoing system which will be around longer than any one player.

Message Posted by old man tiger all we need is a plus 1. I believe the loser of the bama lsu game if they win out will be in the top 4 anyway.

You don't think there would be complaints that a non-conference winner gets the mulligan while leaving other BCS conference champs out?

Little doubt in our minds the loser should be top 4, but people go for it?

IF there is a playoff, LSU/BAMA loses its luster a bit because loser still has a shot at playoffs.

Not when home field advantage is at stake. It would be impossible to do 4 rounds of playoffs at neutral sites. First 3 rounds would have to be at home venues IMO.

I like college sports. 8 team playoff would allow more teams to be have a shot at winning it all causing more excitement during the regualr season. Don't beleive what the media says. Playoffs determine a champion in every other sport yet major CFB is controlled by bowl games...what a joke.

If you are against having a playoff and/or are for the bowl system then you need to read 'Death to the BCS'. After you read that you come back and tell me that you prefer the bowl system and don't want a playoff. A playoff system would make the Universities and conferences tons more money and would be way more exciting than the shitty bowl games. You can still have bowl games for teams that didn't make the playoffs so that wouldn't be eliminated. But a playoff should and needs to happen.

Playoffs, especially one more than 4 teams, would be absolutely horrible.

But keep on ignoring facts and bleating "But every other sport does it!"

I want a playoff. I want to see matchups that can only happen in a playoff system. Playing teams like Michigan, USC, Oklahoma at home or in their stadium. Win and move on to the next round it doesn't get any more exciting than that. You never heard the argument that it would lessen the regular season until a few years ago when the media started spewing that BS. Naturally some fans fell for it.

Do you realize how fricked we would be because we continue to use the regular season as a playoff and poll opinions to determine who is "The Best"?

yes, this happened to Penn State TWICE. and they beat the undefeated Big 8 champ in a slaughter rule game for one of those, but it was the same year that Stabler and Bama went undefeated. Should have been a plus one that year.
yes, this happened to Aubie, and Tupperware, once. should have been a plus one that year too.
