I do love the "a rematch will never happen again" spin from the ESPN folks

should have taken that stance last year, Okie State was more than worthy over a team already defeated at home, just facts

They diminished an incredible season by an incredible team. The SEC has a playoff. It is set up with divisional play. You are rewarded for your division champ by being placed in the conf champ game. Winning said game affords you the opportunity to play for larger stakes. The SEC champ should/does speak volumes on a resume. The teams met head to head. Sorry, Bama, but that's life. The "better team" doesn't always win. We won. That's what makes cfb the greatest reg season in sports. One game-one chance. LSU was punished by having to play a defacto home game against UGA. Bama was rewarded for their failure by getting rest and not playing an extra game. They got extra preparation, while LSU ran the risk of a loss and/or injury. If LSU had lost to UGA, would it have been fair to jump bama over us? Hell no! Bama got to play with house $. The pressure rested on LSU. The bcs gets the nc right most o the time, however, last yr was unfair. Now, we gat a playoff. With the love/reputation of the SEC, you will see SEC rematches in the future. So, what's the point of having the SEC champ game? It will be totally diminished. Mark my words- the 4 team playoff will increase. The greatest reg seasoning sports will be ruined.

Losing to LSU is a helluva lot better than losing to K. State.

Yep, I doubt any of these people complained in '07, and would have complained if LSU had lost to Bama and made the NCG

It was Iowa State, like it matters.

But why don't you look at the wins instead of who lost better? Is it because it makes Bama look like the wrong choice? Also, don't bring up the hindsight that Bama won.

It defied all precident and protocol.

It sounds like sour grapes now, but it's true. I need to confirm but I think the last time two teams from the same conference played in a bowl game, who also played in the regular season was the 1959 Sugar Bowl.

Explain where a rematch happened in '07, or how this situation was similar...

Or explain who should have played instead of LSU.

It still would have been a historical anomoly. But honestly, that would not have happened. I can't prove it, but I just don't think it would have happened.

13 - 0 and Undefeated in SEC is an incredible season. Beating Florida Auburn, Bama and Georgia in same season - HUGE ! Going undefeated ed in SEC that has happened only 5 Times ever in History of SEC - Gigantic. Beating 3 Top 5 Teams in one season - EPIC !. I focus on this and not the game that was played as an afterthought because of partisan politics.

Lol. OSU had a better schedule than Bama last year.

So in your opinion, winning the B12 (with a loss to a fairly mediocre team) was more impressive than Bama's SEC schedule, with a loss to LSU?

Not buying into it. The BCS got it right, just like they were supposed to.

Did you see TheDoc's illustration on page 1? OSU had more wins against then current top 25 and top 50 BCS teams, and were favored in the computers in SOS and other factors. In fact, some computers had Bama 3rd, behind us and OSU, AFTER the NC. LINK

The myth is that Bama's schedule was better. It was not, and the BCS got it wrong.

Nope. Florida actually won the NC in 96 by beating FSU, who beat UF in the regular season.

But again, that was BEFORE the BCS, when teams were contractually bound to play in certain bowls.

The BCS was designed to PREVENT this very thing.

In 96, the BCS would have put FSU and Arizona State in the NCG, preventing a rematch.

No, because Bama was a better football team and more deserving than Okie Light.

Everyone seems to know this who watches college football with the exception of a few bitter, angry LSU fans

So you think the selection committee over just taking the top 4 teams from the BCS is a good thing?

Yes. The BCS formula is merely window dressing for taking the top two teams in the coaches poll. When it fails to do this (which its only done once), they revamp the formula to make sure it doesn't happen again. The BCS formula is a travesty and a farce.

And selection committees have done, largely, a good job in other NCAA sports. I see no reason to demonize a fictional committee based on speculation, when the only track record we do have, other NCAA committees, is largely positive. Not perfect, of course, but positive.

I'll give you better. But they were not more deserving. You can't look at Bama and OSU's regular seasons and say Bama was more deserving.

What I will FOREVER find monumentally galling, unconscionable, and mind-boggling is three things:

(1) Nick-polean was allowed to lobby and whine for his team to be in the BCSNCG on national TV during the SECCG. Why was Gundy not afforded the same opportunity? Why JUUUUST Saban ???

(2) After being told that if they thrashed Oklahoma to win the Big 12 Title, Oklahoma State would get into the BCSNCG on:
(a) Their MUCH stronger SOS than Alashama
(b) Their Conference Championship
(c) The fact that they were ALREADY ranked third in a majority of the polls, and second in many of them BEFORE the Oklahoma game.
(d) The promise that they would have satisfied AAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL the BCS criteria: SOS, current ranking, conference championship, destruction of former #1 Oklahoma.

The only slight question would be:
Would the BCS HUMAN POLL VOTERS AND COACHES
vote Oklahoma State 2nd in ENOUGH of the calculations to move OSU to 2nd?????

Unfortunately, a faction of those HUMAN POLL VOTERS AND COACHES voted Oklahoma State
FIFTH OR SIXTH. Let me repeat that.......
FIFTH OR SIXTH !!!!!!!!!
AFTER they satisfied all the criteria, calculations, SOS, conference championship, crushing former #1 Oklahoma

What kept Oklahoma State out out of the BCSNCG was the OBVIOUSLY BIASED, UNFAIR, AND SLANTED """""""""OPINION"""""""""" that Oklahoma State, even though they had the SECOND BEST RESUME in College Football, was only the FIFTH OR SIXTH BEST TEAM ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTWF WTF WTF WTF WTF ??????????????????

They deserved their shot.

The only history we have with selection committees has to do with SIXTY FOUR team tournaments.

No one is going to raise much fuss if the 65th best team gets screwed, although there are plenty of arguments every single year over seeding within that tourney.

This is picking FOUR teams.

If you think controversy isn't going to be a constant in this process, I think you're going to be in for a rude awakening.

Look back over every single final poll and tell me where the formula wouldn't have worked in the top 4 teams were matched into semi-finals.

I promise you the system would work almost perfectly every year.

You left off the most mind-boggling: Alabama is the first football national champion since before World War II to fail to win its conference. I think people fail to recognize how incredibly radical Bama's title was. It was a seismic shift (and the BCS was eventually going to get this result, as it kept putting non-conference winners in the title game). It is the completion of a 20 year campaign to devalue conference titles.
