It's definitely worth taking a look back, and it's clear that it was a true sham.
At the time I was excited because I was tired of hearing how Bama should have won the first game and was looking forward to it as a fan.
But for the players on that amazing team, it truly was an injustice.
All the talking heads always pushing a playoff so that "it can be settled on the field" basically threw out what happened on 11/5 because they didn't want to admit that they were wrong about which team would win.
ESPN and SI made it seem like a forgone conclusion all week that Bama would be #2, meanwhile OSU is clobbering OU while Bama is sitting at home the weekend of the SECCG, and OSU ends up #3 by the smallest margin in BCS history.
I don't disagree that Bama was better than OSU and probably would have beaten them, but the BCS is designed to pick two teams to decide who the best is. LSU and Bama had already played and decided who was the better team that day. OSU as Big 12 champ had a better resume BY FAR and deserved a shot to share the stage against the best conference champ and take a shot.
All of CFB was cheated out of a chance to see the SEC Champ try to win a 6th straight against the best of the other BCS conferences.
ESPN pushed the idiotic storyline of the SEC's 5 straight titles as though they were all blowout wins and no other conference could compete. The games got closer since the first in 06, a true blowout, and 07, a very convincing win, with a very close game in 08, and closer game than the score indicated in 09 after UT's starting Heisman candidate QB went down in the first quarter, and a straight up nailbiter the year before in 2010.
The only reason the SEC streak was so impressive was because we beat THE BEST THE OTHER CONFERENCES HAD TO OFFER.
The title last year adds NOTHING to the SEC streak IMO, other than the fact that LSU, not Bama, beat the SEC and Big East Champ.
And it was the lowest rated BCSCG ever, so ESPN got what is deserved. It was a stupid idea that a rematch would get the same ratings as the 11/5 clash, and I'm glad they suffered financially for it.
Seeing how badly Bama beat our undermanned O made our victory on 11/5 even more impressive. We had no business winning that first game with our O against that D, and the fact that we found a way to get out of BDS with a win in the Game of the Century is one the most impressive accomplishments that I've ever seen and should be the lasting legacy of that amazing 2011 team IMO.

I don't see how anyone can say Bama didn't deserve to be in the game after the arse whipping they laid on us. BCS got it right IMO

I get the sentiment here but the BCS has been VERY kind to LSU. We wouldnt have sniffed that 07 NC if it werent for the BCS.
Cant have it both ways.

I'm over it.
Congrats to bama on their mulligan.

Idiot.
Who would you have put in the game above LSU?
I'll hang up and listen.

This is usually everyone's retort to the point I made, and looking back on it, that's easy to say. But I've been saying the same thing since before the game itself. How can the players possibly get amped up to beat a team they already did, on the road, at their place? I know it's the NC but as a player that had to be truly disheartening to hear. Oh you beat them at home? Doesn't matter. Now if they beat you, they're crowned the champions of college football.

Get over it already, guy. If you want to bitch about something then bitch about all of the teams that were in front us that lost in the weeks following Nov 5th. If you think that a team that lost to Iowa f'n State should have played for the NC, then i dont know what to tell ya.
I love the way Bama's claim to the #2 spot is by comparing LOSSES.
Before 1/9, what was your best win? It would have to be Arkansas, because you didn't beat anyone else worth a shite.
Compare that to OSU's wins and then talk to me.
When your argument for who is better is comparing games you lost, you don't deserve to play for a championship.

That's just it. 2007: All the contenders lost the last week. 2011: Bama drops like 2 spots after our loss + ESPN belittles the other contender for a month.

I get LSU and Bama might have been the two best teams, but how can you force us to beat a team we already had in the regular season? At their place no less.
Chit happens and it happen to LSU this time.
We got as bad a draw as you can get...no doubt bout that.
Having to beat the same #2 ranked BCS twice in the same season and them only having to beat us once just plain sucks and I don't care who that #2 ranked team might be.
Advantage Bama and a huge one. imo
But...its history and time to let it go.

Bingo
When ESPN asked "which school should play LSU in the BCSNCG and why?" I responded with "osu. It should be about who has the most impressive resume. Not who failed more gracefully".

I don't think many LSU fans will be saying much if they get a chance at a rematch against Florida in the SEC CHampionship game for the right to go to the BCS National Championship Game.
From an outsider, BCS got it right last year. Alabama and LSU were easily the two best teams.

Do you really believe that Oklahoma State was a better team than Alabama?

You're an idiot if you can't see the difference on the two. I'm not even going to humor the idea of telling you why.

No but they weren't noisey state either. They had an impressive bundle on wins and shouldn't have been left out bc "it was clear that Bama was better". Why play the game? Why not just recruit players and label the team with the most perceived talent champion? Okstate got hosed and ANY fanbase, including Bama, would be pissed that it happened to them.

Because that's not the same scenario. LSU and Florida are in opposite divisions and therefore under the rules can meet again in the SEC champ game. The only reason Bama hurdled their way into the NC, without even playing a championship game mind you, is because of voters and media bias. To them, Bama "should have won" the first match and therefore should have been in the game regardless.

They got a second shot because it was Bama, Saban, and SEC. ESPN pimped it for them. It's in the history books and is captured on video for all to see, the evidence is all there. It's in the past now.
Posted on 10/18/12 at 8:35 am to Brettesaurus Rex
We had to beat them twice to win the NC while they only had to beat us once. Absurd and extremely unfair to us.
Posted on 10/18/12 at 8:36 am to Bombblonde
Well of course any fanbase would think they got screwed, but its in imperfect system. They way the BCS is set up is to determine who the National Champion is by letting the 2 best teams play, not the 2 most deserving teams.
Bama was better than OSU, plain and simple
