Alabama missed more FGs in their regular season loss than LSU attempted. They played LSU to a dead tie, which is being generous considering they outgained LSU and moved the ball better against LSU than the other way around. Bama shot themselves in the foot in November. Missed FGs, RB passes that get intercepted on the 1 yard line, letting a Brad Wing punt go over their heads for 75 yards....

Good point. LSU really lost that game. I have to keep reminding myself of that.

LSU lost at BDS...
LSU lost at BDS...
LSU lost at BDS...

Ok, I'm convinced.

I'm sure this has already been covered, but want to stress just how stupid that decision was to let Alabama play in a national championship game against LSU. There's no one to blame but the system we use. Alabama was a great team last year, but I 1000000% believe that Oklahoma State was robbed. Losing to Iowa State on a short week, on the road, in Double OT shouldn't have defined their season. They won every other tough game.
BCS is a joke. Long live the playoff.

Not everyone sees it that way, and the system isn't set up for it.

does it feel as ridiculous now as it did then that we were forced to play Bama a 2nd time after beating them at home?

Haven't thought about it since this season started.

They were CLEARLY the best team in the nation when the season ended. Oklahoma State lost to Iowa fricking State

Hey bud, so I'm sure you thought Michigan should have gotten in over UF in 2006 right?? Cause it's all about who has the best LOSS right??

I mean, UF lost AT HOME by 10 to Auburn, who was only ranked #10.

Michigan lost by 3 ON THE ROAD to the #1 team and only undefeated team in the country.

Clearly, that loss is much more impressive than Florida's, so UM was better than UF after the regular season right?

Now wipe the taint off your face and repeat after me: Florida, as SEC Champion, deserved a shot against OSU instead of Michigan getting a rematch, just like OSU as BIg 12 champ deserved it more than Bama.

Accept the fact that LSU was VERY fortunate to come away from the game in November with a W....and Saban made the proper adjustments in January and kicked yalls asses.

I absolutely accept all of that. It still doesn't change the fact that LSU BEAT Alabama on 11/5.

Jesus Christ a UF fan claiming Bama deserved that spot after what happened in 2006 is fricking rich. I'll be sure to note the asterisk next to your title next time it comes up.

Get over yourself idiot.

I thought it wrong until they destroyed us in the game. Then I realized they got it right. Bama was the better team. You shouldn't want to have a NC in which the best team didn't participate.

Your opinion.

Many have other ideas on how the system is supposed to work.

Yep. And I agree "the system" is arbitrary. It could be structured to take a vote at the end to see who had the "best" season (beauty contest), it could assume a playoff (I favor an 8 team playoff based on seeding. I think it's logistically doable. When the 8 seeded team wins, then there's rationale to consider expanding it), etc.

The advantage of "my system" is that it demonstrates superiority on the field to the exclusion of the most other teams.

Yeah, still ridiculous. But it was what it was, LSU did not come to play. When the typical blowhard Ala fan sees my LSU hat or shirt and makes the stupid joke about the 50 yard line, I always say, "Man, the SEC is such a strong conference when it's 3rd place team can land a spot in the NC game!" LSU won the West, UGA won the East -- that's 1, and 2. Ala was 3. They got to sit at home and watch LSU play UGA, scout LSU play UGA, watch LSU expend energy and sustain wear and tear playing UGA, while they did nothing. Frankly, the way that Ok St beat Okla, I thought they would get the nod.

On the other hand, LSU won the 2007 NC w/ two losses and was quite fortunate to get into the game in the first place. At least Tiger fans admit it.

It isn't going to matter what system is used, someone will have issues with it.

I disagree. I, for one, am actually happy the game was decisive.

Had LSU lost by less than 7, it would have been much more difficult for me to deal with as a fan. Knowing how they got in the game, etc. is something that, as a fan of the sport, really chaps me off.

The playoff won't be better. It will be ESPN forcing as many media darlings in the four slots as they can.

It blew. Wonder if the same thing will happen this year. Let's say everyone loses and you have two sec teams near the top. Wonder if they will pick another SEC team or pac 12 or big 12 team. I don't see ND having less than 2 losses.

I keep hearing well I want to see Oregon against Bama, but last year didn't want to see LSU vs Okie St. I know Okie St. had a road loss to a crappy Iowa St team, but I believe that was the same day of the plane crash and it was a weekday game at night. We had good luck in 2007, bad luck in 2011. If we play Okie St. we would beat the hell out of them. It would be WVU and Oregon all over again. We blew the doors off of them.

What does that have to do with anything? Florida had a top 10 defense both years they won the title....the year our defense fell off, and Tebow won the heisman....we lost 3 games.

Floridas defense was just as much a part of our titles as Tebow and our offense.

That is comparing apples to oranges. Bama and LSU didn't play in the last week of the regular season. Alabama had a month worth of games to prove they deserved it. Michigan lost their last game of the regular season.

If LSU and Bama had played in the SEC championship (impossible, I know) and Bama had lost....they would not have played you guys again.

Also, you are not taking into consideration that the Big 10 was absolutely a joke in 2006, as it is today. Florida played in a ridiculous conference, that had produced 2 of the last 3 national champions and the year they didnt...we had a team go undefeated and finish number 2 in the nation. Both of the Big 10 teams went on to lose their bowl games. They got it right in 2006 and in 2011.

Who cares if some homer LSU fans wants to put an asterisk next to our title? We have the crystal ball. You could say that same thing about both of LSUs titles. In 2003, the number 1 team in both polls didn't even get to play in the title game. LSU got in after losing at home....to a Ron Zook led UF team. In 2007, they got into the game after losing two regular season games over a UGA team that lost 2 regular season games and was on a 10 game winning streak.

You could argue every year. The BCS works and it showed last year. There was not one non LSU fan that watched that game and thought that Bama didn't beat themselves in November.

Yes, I give credit to LSU for all of the things mentioned in this thread....making them kick long FGs, making that unbelievable INT, making all of their attempts....but everyone knew that Ok State was not on the same level as either one of those teams. Who cares if they won the Big 12...do you honestly think Alabama wouldn't have won that conference?

After 1/9, everyone outside of Louisiana knows the BCS got it right....
