Hey Speedy,

Where does MIles' 81.1% winning percentage rank all time in the SEC?

Looks like he could be 2nd behind Meyer.

And later this year, if you're only counting guys with more than 100 games, first?

The only coach in college football history to beat the national champion, Big East Champ, and Pac12 Champ in the same year.

In addition to everything else, I've always liked the fact that Les has always had outstanding special teams. No one can dispute that. He's used it as a weapon throughout his entire career here.

Think of how many times a special teams play has either turned a game around for us or provided the necessary stamp on a Win.

Two examples from book end years: punt block against Arizona State for TD (I believe it was blocked by Hester) returned by Steltz and in the same game, LSU blocked a field goal and returned for a TD, then the Kickoff return for TD against West Virginia by Claiborne. Fake punts, blocked field goals, kick-off coverage, you name it and LSU has done it with consistency and every unit every year is outstanding.

Les Freakin' Miles!!!

Great Job Speedy ! I like me some Miles but Raising Canes gave me the shites last Saturday night.

I now accept the realization of how lucky LSU fans and administration are to have a quality man like Coach Les Miles represent this fine university. Les keeps it fun and just keeps on winning. 1-09 is gone forever but I know the young men are in good hands with a man who is going to respect his players as if they were his own sons. God bless Les Miles and his family ! Winning 80 % of your ballgames is a bonus !

Can someone shed light on these numbers....are some games considered "neutral" field, not home or away???

77-18 = The Hat's Overall Record at LSU

45-6 = The Hat's Home record

23-9 = The Hat's road record

If he has lost 18, then home and away losses should total 18, right?

When the Baseball team was introduced at the Washington game Les went over and hugged Maneri. Can you picture our prior coach doing that. The Hat is the best.

Washington win cements Miles as great SEC coach

By JIM ENGSTER
Tiger Rag Featured Columnist

After 95 games in the league, Miles is among the best coaches in the history of the SEC. This is a list of 13 successful conference football mentors after 95 assignments representing members of the SEC.

Coach Record Percentage School
Phil Fulmer 80-14-1 84.7 Tennessee
Steve Spurrier 79-15-1 83.7 Florida
Les Miles 77-18-0 81.8 LSU
Mark Richt 76-19-0 80.0 Georgia
Robert Neyland 73-19-3 78.4 Tennessee
Frank Thomas 75-15-5 81.6 Alabama
Nick Saban 71-24-0 74.7 LSU/Alabama
Pat Dye 70-23-2 74.7 Auburn
John Vaught 68-22-5 74.2 Ole Miss
Charles McClendon 68-23-4 73.7 LSU
Vince Dooley 64-27-4 69.5 Georgia
Shug Jordan 64-28-3 68.9 Auburn
Bear Bryant 63-26-6 69.5 Kentucky/Alabama

It should be noted that Urban Meyer coached only 80 games at Florida, producing a record of 65-15 (81.3 pct). LSU’s Bernie Moore went 60-30-5 (65.8 percent) in his first 95 games in the SEC.

have been a fan since the '60s and we have never had a BETTER COACH, INCLUDING SABAN. yes, saban has taken another stride in his career at bama and he is argueably the best in the business now but miles damn sure is better than saban was at LSU.

Those Saban fanboys forget he lost atleast 3 games a year except once.

Also a lot of fans don't realize that it's harder to maintain a powerhouse program than it is to build one. It's far easier to bring in a couple great recruiting classes than it is to have good - great classes every year.
