Aranda is worth 5M + per year on the open market as a power 5 head coach. Why would he tie himself to 2M per year for the foreseeable future and a wink to possibly be a head coach maybe one day.

I'm of the opinion that if he wants to be a college head coach he will be able to pick any vancancy he wants this off season (Texas A&M would make me sick). Someone will pay him 5M + which is impossible to pay a D.C. If you want to keep this guy and he desires to be a head coach, which we don't know for sure, he will be gone unless we dump O. My train of thought has been Aranda was the correct hire for HC last year. We may have really screwed this one up as it will be almost impossible politically to fire O for Aranda if we have a decent season.

Im probably wrong, but I thought Aranda did not want to be a head coach. I thought he didnt like giving interviews, making public appearances, entertaining boosters and the other political stuff that comes with being a head coach.

If he wants to be a head coach we should just give him the Jimbo Fisher deal and pay him a buttload and call him Head Coach in Waiting.

This team was beyond a cupcake. What would that be??

An FBS opponent coming off a 9 win season is a cupcake?

BYU aren't world beaters by any means, but a cupcake would be the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, MS St's opponent. They are an FCS (Div 1-AA) opponent coming off of a 7 win season.

We had our Coach in Saban, no counter offer. Jimbo Fisher was our OC and was in our lap to become HC. Now comes DA, the best DC in the Country. Star tuned but I have no confidence that LSU will make that move!

It's not about what you did last year. That Portland State game told me everything I needed to see. They aren't very good even though Portland State is a pretty good FCS team.
I said that our defense will be much improved pressure wise in a few weeks. This game gave some young guys time to learn as will our next opponents leading up to AU.

Keep tearing up the previous contract.

After this year, or now for that matter, give him a slight increase to a contract of $2M per year guaranteed but UNCANCELLABLE. He cannot coach anywhere but LSU or entertain offers while on this new contract. Have O and Elleva sit down with him and say here are 2 contracts both for $2M per year each, one for 3 years x $2M = $6M, 1 for 5 years x $2M = $10M. Which one do you want? If we have to, incentivize this Def Coord deal by Overall Def stats- Top 10 100K, Top 5 150K, Top 3 300K, Number 1 500K.

If he takes the 3 years that means he knows that he will have people waiting in line for his contract to be over and he wants to be a head coach soon or NFL Def Coord. If he takes the 5 years he is happy where he is and is in no hurry to be a head coach or a NFL Def Coord.

Or, without O in the room, Alleva says here is $2M per year plus those incentives above for 5 years guaranteed and Uncancellable (You have to stay, no entertaining other offers), and if we need to make a change in head coach for any reason you have first right of refusal. Or call it head coach in waiting?

Wtf is this nonsense?

I'm truly nervous someone will try to take him at the end of the season. He seems like an ambitious guy

Say what? Aranda hasn't coached a single down as a head coach anywhere. And you think a school is going to pay him $5 million to cut his teeth.

I like Aranda as our DC as much as anybody but damn, you people are going WAY overboard with this nonsense.

Besides, not all coordinators want to be a head coach. The jobs are COMPLETELY different.

Truly one of most idiotic comments I've ever read here.

No employer can force an employee to stay. All contracts can be breached, with buyouts and other clauses as a disincentive for doing so. But if a guy wants to leave, an employer can't chain him to his desk.
