There should also be a reasonable expectation that the "#2 defense" in CFB wasn't going to let the team with the worst 3rd down conversion rate in CFB march down the field with ease.

The mistake was running twice then passing. If Lane had Sam throw an easy pass on 2nd which had been open all game, then 3rd down likely becomes converting a short distance.

Yep, really hard to beat Kentucky when the refs have already decided they’re going to win

It wasn't on the Refs, it was on coaching. If it wasn't for 2 missed field goals and two trick plays we are not even in that game. We got our terds pushed in.

Yeah as a Kentucky fan, he seemed skittish all night. I think in some way Stein got in his head.

He and Lincoln Riley are just mid major coaches not ready to the big time. Great hire lsu

This is bs by a bunch of people who dont know football. For one, we supposedly had an elite defense, and an elite DC. Teams that have that aren't going for it in their own end of the field with that much ti.e left. They were already in fg range if we dont get it. Championship coaches (apparently there are a lot on this board) would do that. It was the right call. What was not expected, again, was the way Baker called the defense. Lsu has a good team. They have some good coaches. But this defense is not near elite like we thought, and bottom line is we made Leavitt a rich dude and he doesnt have IT.

Our O line was getting its arse kicked all night That may have had something to do with it. And although we were getting pushed around on defense as well in the first half, it seems like we were playing better defense in the second half until it mattered and collapsed on the last drive. The referees definitely missed some big calls with the qbs momentum clearly stopped and movement to allow to scores but they also missed to very makable fields goals. Just an ugly game. Kentucky played to win and now have two it wins. They will not go far this year with what they have but neither will we.

The OL being inconsistent, Leavitt not seeing the field/turning it over, and drop concerns made him gun-shy.

So just ignore the fact that they had moved the ball up and down the field and rely on stats vs cupcakes in the weeks prior. Makes sense.

He pissed down his leg when all we needed was a tush push, Jones up the middle, Jones sweep, or even a qb keeper out of shotgun

All viable options and he chooses to punt

Never thought I’d see a lane kiffen team balk at the opportunity to finish a game on 4th and 1. Just strange.

It truly is. He didn’t have that. Let’s finish them attitude

Now here’s the deal… if you are the head coach at Ole Miss or Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, these level programs, you go for it. because you’re not expected to beat LSU, so you show everybody that you’re willing to fight to win and in this case he tried to play it safe because of the scrutiny, he would get if they don’t get the first down and they lose the game, so he bet on his defense and the statistical odds

Baker had a terrible game

Tackling was really bad. I mean, we gave up 77 yards on the first play of the game and then we had a punt return for seven

And we gave them two turnovers

Just you can’t do that
