Lifelong LSU and Saints fan. Hurt Saints had 1st choice and took Texas' Vacarro over Reid raised , H.S. and college hour up the road. Hope turns out a win for both.

(And now he's the starting safety for the returning NFC Champions.)

Yes, he's got talent. That's why he was a 1st round draft pick. That doesnt mean he didnt have a crappy season.

If you think Reid had a crappy season, then the vast majority of safeties in college football had crappy seasons

This is all true. Just because he's starting out of necessity at SF does not make any of those things untrue. He was overrated, got drafted high by a team who lost their starter at that position. Of course they will give him every chance to start. Now lets see how he plays. My bet is that SF will be disappointed. And that would be great news for the Saints.

He's not starting out of necessity. He earned the starting spot in preseason.

No

A team that let their starting safety walk because they knew they could replace him in the draft or free agency.

Some of you people I don't know about. You call yourselves LSU fans and say crap like this. Eric Reid in no damn way is overrated. Just because he didn't play up to his expectations and others last season is no reason to say crap like this. Reid has shown better ball skills than Landry and hits just as fierce. He deserved to be drafted in the first round. he played in the SEC for pete's sake. Not many safeties in the country better than him, idiots.

^This x100. He was one of the best safeties in CFB the last 2 years while playing in the most dominant division of the most dominant conference. IDK how anyone who calls themselves an LSU fan could honestly say that Eric Reid is overrated and not very talented. Sure he took some bad angles last year and may have declined from 2011 a little but he didn't have MC17, TM7, or BT18 in 2012. That's a major drop off in the talent/experience of his supporting cast. Also, he had nagging, minor injuries most of last season and he had much more responsibility so a small drop off was acceptable, if not expected IMO. He is a legit 1st rounder and will be a legit NFL safety and probably a pro-bowler for many years. Jebus, some of you people have ridiculous expectations if you think Eric freekin Reid was overrated.

ETA: I forgot to mention that he was one of the smartest, if not the smartest player on our team the last few years. I think he had a 4.0 GPA. I wish we had more Eric Reids. And some of you idiots say that he was overrated and that SanFran will be disappointed??? IDIOTS!!!!

So wait, LSU fans can't objectively evaluate individual players?

Talk about idiotic reasoning.

guess I came back on at the right time. And just what is your "idiotic" reasoning for declaring Reid to be "overrated"?? Can't wait to hear this bullshite.

The old eyeball test of watching him play for 3 seasons. He doesn't wrap up when attempting to tackle, rather he prefers to throw his body at the offensive player. While possessing ideal size and speed for his position, he does not appear very athletic in his movements. Too many occassions of him taking the wrong angle when pursuing an offensive player.
My overall evaluation of Eric Reid is that he was a good college player, but not nearly as great as many like to make him out to be. I would be surprised if he proves to be a good pro player, but of course I could end up totally wrong. I hope he does well.

Not sure why some LSU fans get so irate when other fans have a less than glowing opinion of a player's football abilities.
