With the lack of depth at linebacker and recent portal additions in dlinmen and the secondary. Harold Perkins could be masked by using the 4 downlinemen to protect him from offensive linemen that way he stays clean and can make more plays

We're going to be in Nickel and Dime a ton. Don't get too wrapped up in the base defense. Best players will play and House will make sure they're utilized properly.

teams try to scheme us into that most games anyway but our OLB/DEs are so versatile it almost doesn't matter what the base is.

What did we run against A&M? No more of that!

7-Diamond...stack the line and let Perkins run free.

We ran 4-2-5 at least two thirds of the time this past year.

And it's going to be our base defense going forward. You can tell that based on the fact we have 16 defensive linemen (counting Jack linebackers as defensive linemen) and 17 defensive backs but only 5 linebackers on scholarship.

We played a 4-2-5 defense all this past year mostly anyways. Our EDGE guy sometimes just decides to put hand in dirt or stand up pending on some things but I'd still consider them a DLine person lining up along the Dline whether their hand isnt always in ground or not.

We did go to 3-3-5 for the bowl game due to opt outs.

We really only have 2 true linebacker spots though typically.

Our base is a 3-3-5. Most teams now give you 1 Rb 1Te so the 3-3-5 works. We rush our jack more times than not, to give the 4-2-5 look. But we drop him enough to say we are base 3-3-5. I’d like to see Perkins staying OLB to give a 3-4 look. Just depends on if we get some LBs from the juco ranks.

That’s just what the game dictates anyway. Offenses can put too many athletes on the field to run a true 4-3. You need the athletes on defense to cover the field. That’s why the versatile edge position has become a thing. Versatility and speed is more important now than ever on defense.

We are multiple, but it seems like we run 3-3-5 "over" the most.

4-2-5 is their base and it can't be anymore obvious by how they're attacking the portal. Considering how loaded up they're going on lineman/DBs and they still aren't done yet. They'll probably still get some more DL and DBs likely S.
