SOS is a component of RPI. If you look at RPI, there is no need to look at SOS. Doing so gives double credit for SOS.
Yet they are listed separately. RPI rank. SOS rank.
Not the same.

29-28 Florida team makes the tournament
and they might actually knock off everyone in that regional.
I'm just saying that because a Big Ten team is the host.
UF should be a good fit for that regional since they are a quasi-Big Ten team. Florida may be an SEC school, but their fan base is comprised of a bunch of Ohio/New Jersey/Michigan transplants. Damn snowbird liberals.

Of course they are not the same. What point are you making.
Florida's RPI is as high as it is as a result of SOS. It would be idiotic to look at their RPI, and then give more credit for SOS.

Yet both are a component of seeding. As is record.
I bet that #2 SOS made a huge difference to the committee.

I'm not saying that they didn't because it's hard to make a case for Florida any other way.
My point is that to use RPI AND SOS individually gives way too much weight to SOS.

basically, if you're a bad baseball team you can get in if you play a hard schedule. it's stupid, and it's the same for basketball too. you shouldn't be given preferential treatment if you simply play a hard schedule but don't beat the good teams you play. florida had two good series wins the entire season. that does not equate to earning a spot in the ncaa tournament over other more deserving teams, campbell being one of them. florida also closed out the season horribly

Exactly. They were 4 games below .500 against the top 50 RPI teams, and exactly .500 in 10 games against teams ranked 51 to 100.
They also have FIVE bad losses to teams ranked 100-200.
I'm happy that Florida is in for the sake of the SEC, but they simply do not belong.

2011
RPI - 23
SOS - 28
We got hosed. But, it's time to get over it. Honestly, looking at the draw Oregon St got, I'd much rather be the #4 seed. Our draw is as cake as it can be. There's only two ranked teams in the Blacksburg regional, and they were both "others receiving votes" just a few weeks ago. Both finished 3rd in their conference, near 500. And the 2nd best team coming to BR lost to LSU by almost 10 runs in a midweek.

Campbell has been mentioned by basically everyone as being snubbed because they didn't win their conference tournament. they had a 49-10 record but lost to liberty in their conference championship game. their rpi was 42, which is higher than an at large new mexico team that got in and several other auto bid qualifiers

You win best data in thread.

The reality is, Florida played like crap down the stretch. Woohoo, they played a strong schedule...and were barely above .500 for their efforts.
Auburn was screwed, and it cost the head coach his job. Auburn was one game worse SEC-record-wise but played in the much stronger West. An East team worthy of the NCAAs should have finished with a better than .500 record in the league.
Plus, Florida lost a series at home to Auburn two weeks ago. It's a joke.
As for the LSU screwjob two years ago, it was all about the MSU guy on the committee. Just like Texas A&M getting into the tourney AND being a two-seed this year. There have been other instances of direct committee biases like these.
