I don't know if I've ever felt worse for an athlete than I did for young Jamie Howard on that day. Still can't believe he came back to LSU after the way some fans and even some in the media treated him.

I just read an old article about Curley Hallman right after he was fired from LSU. LSU had to buy out the remainder of his $90,000 a year contract lol. Man how times have changed.

I still can't believe that last interception return. Our seats were low behind the LSU bench. So I didn't see the last return completely. But I heard an incredible roar and there was some Auburn guy strutting down the sideline.

I'll never, ever understand why Hallman didn't DEMAND a running play to be called on that fateful 3rd down.

What's odd about that was two years before in Auburn, Hallman started two other QBs (at least one was Jesse Daigle, other maybe Ryan Huffman) and Auburn got up 27-7.He put Howard in and BAM!, we go up 28-27 with a minute left.

Auburn hadn't done squat,so of course we go the prevent route and Auburn kicks a fg with :04 left to win 30-28. Pat Dye, always an idiot, referred to his kicker as "feminine looking", meaning 'effeminate' which was just as bad.

Watched that game on the big screen at the Varsity. We left early in disgust. Those days were horrid. Baseball helped a bit.
