QB is awful. They’ve never seen a defense like LSU before

Neither have we. No on on this site can honestly say they know what we are going to get out of this defense this year. We won’t have a clue until Saturday.

It’ll be very important for the DBs to be solid. Got to make Robinson hold the ball long enough for the front 7 to get to him.

While I agree with you to an extent, the talent we have on defense is nothing like they have seen before. But on the other hand we saw last year what a talented defense without a coach gets you.

Their game against Hawaii was over before it started.

I don't expect to see that same "bland" offense on Saturday

UCLA tried to come out and not be “bland” but they couldn’t because of inefficiencies. Why wouldn’t you practice your offense in a game that is “over before it started?” One of the biggest conspiracies in college football, and frankly is a form of cognitive dissonance developed by all LSU fans during the Miles era, is that offenses hold back or keep things vanilla prior to a big game. It’s all BS. It’s more of a development period or tune up than anything else (e.g., practice passing & develop timing in real play). UCLA attempted to pass quite a bit in the first half and was on pace to throw for 30 attempts but inefficiency halted the play calling and forced the offense to be conservative. Honestly, when they jerked DTR in the 4th I think it was to protect him more than anything else, he was starting to take some risks in the passing game and nearly threw two INTs.

But I agree, you won’t see a bland form of offense next Saturday because UCLA will have to play to win which means they will have to take some risks with DTR. Especially if LSU can make them go three and out in two series while putting points in the board.

Edit…what do you want the writer for 247 to say? “Man we’re going to be running straight into the Tiger’s teeth next Saturday?” Of course the picture is being painted in favor of college football’s favorite conspiracy to draw in fans. “Oh shite, our offense sucked and DTR was horrible passing! But that’s ok because we were being conservative on purpose! Boy, we have a surprise in store for LSU next week our QB is going to be way better than 50% passing against blanketed WRs and a pass rush!”

LSU didn’t replace last years defense. It’s the same guys. Not sure why it’s gonna magically become unstoppable.

Getting to have spring practice and a coordinator that knows how to communicate with his players. Our problems were scheme and assignment awareness, not talent. Can be easily fixed by new/different coaches.

Stingley played most the year banged up.

You add a year of reps and experience to the DL as well as adding a year of the weight room to last years freshman like Roy and Gulliory.

Transfers like Burns, Strong, and Jones are looking to start or contribute.

Not really sure where you think it'll be just like last year.

Its the same guys but a lot different, plus new guys that are good freshmen and solid transfers

Our whole DL is light years better as the freshmen from last year are more developed and have game experience (see Roy, Evans and Ojulari) and Gaye will be awesome and our old boys like Anthony, Farrell, Logan etc. are all in better shape this year and they all love the DL coach. Add Mason Smith and our DL is WAY BETTER

Add Bugg and Jones Jr. to our LB room, plus the LB coach will get that fixed. It appears the boys want to play for D. Jones as he is a younger coach than the old dinosaurs we had in the past.

Stingley and Ricks will hold the CB spots down and our safety play cannot be worse than last year as we have potential from 3 solid freshmen, Burns transferring and a few old vets in their 4-5th years

Well said, sir. My takeaway also. Hell, Hawaii was forced to punt in opening possession and gifted UCLA an easy TD opportunity inside the red zone when the punter kneeled the ball due to a low snap. DNR was terribly inaccurate on two passes but did showcase his speed in a QB sweep that was stopped.

They got 3 pts on a gifted possession inside the 20 and managed 6yds on 3 plays. They tried early to throw it around but stuck with the run when he couldn't hit a barn. Crowd sucked also with nobody there.

You reply this a lot and get told the same thing everytime. No, it is not same guys. All new coaching group. New players were added. The scheme and play calling will be different.

Only way and that is up from what we saw last year. Last year sucked and shouldn't be graded for several reasons. See you in the next thread!

What was our defense ranked last year??

I want to see this team play before I believe the hype because we heard it last year before the season started.

Agreed. Our safeties and linebackers are still a big question mark/unknown.
