Just a reminder: in that 15-0 year of 2019, the defense was somewhat suspect UNTIL after the Ole Miss game on Nov. 16 and in that game the Rebels put up over 600 yards of total offense.

After the Ole Miss game, it was like a light switch was turned on and suddenly the defense jelled through the rest of the year.

Does this defense have the capability to pull it together? Does House have the intelligence to recognize the changes to make or to figure out the conundrum of how to properly utilize Perkins?

There were games in 2019 where it was all on the offense to win games until after Ole Miss. Many were wondering if Aranda's reputation was carrying him and questioning his ability to handle SEC play.

House comes in with a similar reputation and everyone is questioning his ability to handle SEC play.

Let's hope he figures out the formula and the defense jells. There is still an opportunity to win the West.

The talent on the 2019 defense absolutely dwarfs this team's.

we had three top picks at CB and S in 2019. it's a completely different level.

In my opinion, not even comparable. The only reason you'd even bring them up in the same conversation is because they played opposite of amazing offenses.

One has nothing to do with the other.

People are arguing with you but they are wrong, at least from a pure statistical point of view. Here are some stats to look at.

2018 13 games

Games with >300 yards given up by the D - 8
Games with >400 yards given up by the D - 3
Games with >500 yards given up by the D - 2
Games with >600 yards given up by the D - 0
Games with >700 yards given up by the D - 0

2019 15 games

Games with >300 yards given up by the D - 7
Games with >400 yards given up by the D - 4
Games with >500 yards given up by the D - 3
Games with >600 yards given up by the D - 1
Games with >700 yards given up by the D - 0

2020 10 Games

Games with >300 yards given up by the D - 8
Games with >400 yards given up by the D - 8
Games with >500 yards given up by the D - 6
Games with >600 yards given up by the D - 3
Games with >700 yards given up by the D - 0

2021 13 Games

Games with >300 yards given up by the D - 9
Games with >400 yards given up by the D - 7
Games with >500 yards given up by the D - 0
Games with >600 yards given up by the D - 0
Games with >700 yards given up by the D - 0

2022 14 Games

Games with >300 yards given up by the D - 8
Games with >400 yards given up by the D - 6
Games with >500 yards given up by the D - 2
Games with >600 yards given up by the D - 0
Games with >700 yards given up by the D - 0

2023 6 games

Games with >300 yards given up by the D - 5
Games with >400 yards given up by the D - 4
Games with >500 yards given up by the D - 2
Games with >600 yards given up by the D - 1
Games with >700 yards given up by the D - 1

ETA: Not suggesting this D is in the same ballpark as 2019 in terms of talent, only that the D gave up a lot of yards in 2018 & 2019

It's nice to have all but one remaining regular season at home. That's for sure.

how to properly utilize Perkins?

I like the way they are utilizing him now. He seems to be all over the field making gigantic plays. He had a game impacting interception, And remember that beautiful defensive play he made beating a block and tackling that guy for a three yard loss on a sweep?

You’re missing a lot of important aspects like the 2019 team having 9 injured starters and wasn’t fully healthy until post season break, Orgeron meddling in the D and changing the structure until after the Ole Miss debacle, the schedule being infinitely harder than the cake walk we’ve had this season and that D stopping top 5 opponents in succession. This D can’t come close to stopping middling to bottom half conference opponents.

I'm just posting stats. Hence why I said from a purely statistical stand point.
